Re: Mayfair Supermarket,Red Bank,NJ & NYC old Safeway questi
I noted in an old Red Bank,NJ newspaper ,ads for Mayfair Markets,ad said a Twin County Grocers. This was late 1950's. Were these stores affilated with the Mayfair Supermarkets that were located on the west coast ? Also, I know Safeway was located in the NYC area until I think the late 1950's. Anybo...

Milgram/SaveMart
I was reading an old Company History of the old wholsealer Wetterau Inc. (now part of Supervalu) and it had mentioned a grocery chain it bought named Milgram Foods. Anyone remember or have any info or memories on this chain that operated in the Kansas City area, and when did it go out of business? T...

Re: Who Remembers "Barney's Cafe" (Kroger) & What's The Hist
Here's a 1989 article interviewing the Kroger head regional deli operations manager about the growth of some of the Barney's Cafes in some Krogers. The descriptions seem even more elaborate than those previously mentioned, bordering more on a full restaurant format http://findarticles.com/p/articles...

Re: Pre-CVS drugstore in Oxford Valley Mall?
Josh. Being from the area and visiting that mall frequently esp during the 1980s there was a HBA--only Rite Aid at the Oxford Valley Mall until the 90s, it may have been the same location as the said CVS (which moved up the road to a bigger location in Yardley) and speaking of the(and speaking of Ri...

Re: Kessel Food Market
Kroger created a distribution partnership called Foodland Distributors by spinning off the Detroit area warehouse to a limited partnership with several Detroit area supermarkets, including Kessel's. Super Kmarts in the the area were supplied by the warehouse from the 90's until the partnership was ...

Re: Topco branded Products at Shop 'n Bag (Pre-Fleming era)
Hi, Shop &Bag Co_Op members being good businesmen and having former PenFruit customers shoping in many former Penfruit stores now being Shop &Bag were asked for Topco. They arranged to add this private label as a second private label to their stores. This however was short lived and the co-...

Re: An Old Philadelphia Acme
There was an A-frame style Acme at the corner of the Roosevelt Boulevard and Borbeck St. that was built in the 60s. It probably closed in 1980 after Acme purchased and relocated to the larger former Food Fair property at Pennypack Circle. The old store became Dugan's Restaurant and catering hall. D...

( This is directed to people in the Philadelphia/ Delaware Valley area but everyone with knowledge can chime in. back in the mid 90s I recall seeing a small old abandoned truck with a half a dozen old logos all of them marked out with black paint. one of them being the old "Shop n' Bag" lo...

Re: Dart Drug, Wash DC area?
Yes, I remember them. They did quite well. They also opened Crown Books and Trak Auto. Some of the drug stores also sold building materials. I remember one store with ceiling tile on one side of the aisle and wine on the other. They were not well organized. Because of the family bickering, they end...

Re: Pantry Pride: Is anyone familiar with this store Interio
Yep………..pretty much. :-) Thanks Steve. The design seemed in tune with the time period (late 70s early 80s) and meshed well with the 1977-early 90s Pantry Pride logo and private label packaging In Philadelphia during the takeover of some of Penn Fruits best stores by Pantry Pride you had stores chan...
