As I grew up in the West Covina area, I know the history of this KMart.....the original tenant was called "SCOA" (late 1960's). Then it became "Save-Co" (early 1970's).....later Cal Stores (mid 1970's).......and finally KMart (1977 or 1978). Can anyone tell us more about "SCOA"?

Re: Kmart/SCOA West Covina
Next door to the Sears-owned Kmart is Sears Outlet, great complement to the main Sears a few blocks away at the mall. This location in 1979 was a Safeway Liquor/Food Barn, then it became House of Fabrics, which Joann Fabrics bought out and closed sometime last year. To show that Sears Outlet and Kmart are linked, they installed a public access door adjacent to the KCafe. Also, in the cafe, are a couple of washer-dryers on sale at the Outlet side. This Outlet location sells mostly appliances.

Re: Kmart/SCOA West Covina
There's some mention of this store on this thread: http://www.groceteria.com/board/viewtop ... =29&t=1877
SCOA was a membership department store owned by Shoe Corporation of America but their ads used the slogan "Serving Communities of America." The West Covina store opened in November 1961 and the name was changed to Save Co in 1965.
