Re: Filene's Basement files for bankruptcy...again

I'm behind on updating so, for anyone interested, the bidding process for Filene's Basement was re-opened; Men's Wearhouse was dropped, and Sym's ("Where an educated consumer is our best customer") is the new winner/owner of Filene's Basement: http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2009/0...

Re: Those little roller-coaster things groceries traveled on

Someone mentioned the Star Market at Porter Square in Cambridge, MA. That store WAS remodeled a couple of years ago but I don't know if they have a conveyor system. One store that may still have one is the Shaw's (now Star Market) on Commonwealth Ave in Allston, MA (Boston). Let me first say that th...

That web address doesn't come close to working. The first part should more than likely be http:// rather than what you have typed in your post. I tried several variations including using http://www before ecommunity. So try again please.

Re: Central Massachusetts

There was an independent called Orlando's in the Worecester market at least through the mid 70's. Can't remember how many stores they had. I recall one in Shrewsbury across from Spag's and Frosty's. The building (since torn down and rebuilt) now houses several businesses. Orlando's Meat Shop was st...

Re: Former Boston Market locations in your area

I can't let all you Left Coast people have all the fun. Here in central Massachusetts, according to the Boston Market website, there are 32 BM locations within 50 miles of my street address. There is just one within 5 miles of me and that is in Worcester, MA but I don't know how long it's been there...

Re: Albertsons's Health and Home Division

This is from Wikipedia: On January 23, 2006, CVS announced that it had agreed to acquire the freestanding drug store operations of supermarket chain Albertsons. The deal included the acquisition of 700 drug stores trading under the Osco Drug and Sav-On Drugs banners, mostly in the Midwest and Southw...

Re: Central Massachusetts

This particular post hasn't been touched in nearly 3 years but I'll go with it anyway although answering a "dead" thread probably isn't a good way to start my Groceteria message board career. -Concerning the above-mentioned Shaw's/Webster Square in Worcester, Shaw's had the old Zayre's/Ame...
