Re: Bucks Crossing/Bucks County Mall
Looking at historicaerials.com, the A&P (currently TJ Maxx) was the first building on the property, in 1965. The mall area opened next to it in 1967, and the department store anchor (now Staples/ Michael's) opened around 1971 as Gaylord's, a department store chain that had stores in DE and north...

That Acme's now the CVS at 15th & Spruce; the building still looks the same: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62355920@N00/4443995485/.

Re: Mystery drugstore chain in central PA
I've since found out the answer; these stores were Gray Drug Fair stores, which was acquired by Rite Aid in 1988 as one of their biggest at the time (356 stores). The stores in this area operated under the "Drugfair" name, but had nothing to do with the Drug Fair in NJ; the more Midwest st...

Mystery drugstore chain in central PA
I've noticed there's a cluster of Rite Aids in central PA that all have similar store numbers; usually with Rite Aid and many other chains this means those stores were part of an acquired chain (some other examples are Lane Drugs in central NJ in 1990, White Shield in central/ northeast PA in the ea...

Re: Modern Genuardi's closures
The closing/ sold list has now been officially announced; here's the list of remaining stores and what's happening to them: 1 - 1930 W. Main St, Norristown: closing (Giant at 2660 Egypt Rd is nearby) 3 - 35 W. Germantown Pike, Norristown: waiting for a buyer (Giant in Blue Bell is nearby; also Shop-...

Re: Pre-CVS drugstore in Oxford Valley Mall?
For a further update, I have since found a website (licensedirect.com) that lists current and former pharmacy licenses in PA with the dates they were issued (usually a few weeks before the store's opening) that's given me a lot of stuff to work with. According to that the Rite Aid in Middletown Town...

Re: Pre-CVS drugstore in Oxford Valley Mall?
Thanks for the info; if it closed no later than 1991 there wouldn't be any record of it on the internet (since Bucks County's newspapers don't have archives that go back that far online). It's interesting that even in the early 90s CVS was still actively expanding into malls, to the point where they...

Even more Genuardi's news: http://phoenixville.patch.com/articles/genaurdis-on-kimberton-road-to-close#photo-8011221 The Phoenixville store will be closing on Oct. 15; the Rite Aid will also be closing (they of course refer to it as "moving", but really only the prescription files are movi...

Re: Modern Genuardi's closures
It was announced yesterday that the Eagleville Genuardi's will be closing on October 8 with the expiration of their lease. I wasn't aware of this but apparently Metro Self Storage opened in the former Kmart space not too long ago, so this is at least a smaller vacancy (although probably too small fo...

Re: Cherry Hill NJ/Klein's
There was never a CVS in the Springfield Shopping Center for those years; there have only ever been the two in Springfield: store 722, which opened at 334 Baltimore Pike around 1985, and 2582, which opened at 795 Baltimore Pike in 2000. I have a listing of every CVS in PA from 1997 and can confirm t...

Re: Old Supermarket Mystery North Wales/Montgomeryville, PA
This store was in fact a Fresh Fields; I remember seeing it with that name when driving by around 2001. The center at that point looked as it does now, so I would assume that's how it always looked. The other anchors were Staples (still there) and Thrift Drug (later Eckerd and Rite Aid, which closed...

Re: More central PA Acme stores?
According to the list I was given the Elizabethtown Acme was at 1571 S. Market St; it opened in 1959. That would mean it's now the CVS, which was a former Rea & Derick. It's possible the R&D relocated into the Acme spot from next door, or just opened a brand new store (R&D was sold to Pe...

Re: FORMER WOODLYN/CHESTER ACME 2002 PHOTOS
The Acme's opening date was 12/5/62 according to the opening dates I've received, and the Thrift Drug opened on 11/3/64 according to a Delco Times article; it's possible the rest of the shopping center was added on over time and completed by 1968.

Re: Possible ex-Delaware Food Fair
I did some research on the Delco Times archives, which gave me some info about Kiddie City: The first store opened in 1954 as "Nelson's Kiddie City"; it was acquired by Penn Fruit in 1961 and then sold to Lionel in the late 60s. The Springfield store was at 641 Baltimore Pike and opened as...

Re: Delaware County history resource
Oh OK, the Springfield Eckerd closed in 2000 as part of the 300 or so stores Eckerd closed at the time. The Rx files probably went to CVS, although I'm not sure if their store at Baltimore & Rt. 420 had opened yet (it was sometime in 2000). If not the files probably went to the older CVS further...
