Another location was added in the Parkland Shopping Center in the 1960's. The downtown location was converted to W...

Re: Macon Georgia area History (Colonial-a&p and others)
I need to update some info in the colonial section, not to duplicate my old post or step on another persons. Colonial goes as far back in Macon as Rogers Grocery. As far as solid research I found; the earliest location was a 1st era Big Star on 3rd and cherry in Macon, which changes to a colonial st...

Re: Wrigley in Atlanta?
Wrigley appears in print ads in the Atlanta newspapers @1975. At least one location posted are is NOT adjacent to K-mart stores from that period. 2965 Stewart Avenue (Metropolitan Pkwy), was turned into a Big Star relocation from Crossroads@Stewart-Lakewood, then into a Kroger which still remains th...

Re: Macon Georgia area History (Colonial-a&p and others)
Found a pic of the old A&P on Riverside Dr in Macon. The pic has A&P in the background of an old postcard from Quality Inn, which was located in the Riverside Plaza at the time.

Re: Food Depot.. Any Info?
Even though food depot stores in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi all would seem to be linked, each group of stores in each of their respective states are owned by different companies. The Mississippi stores are owned by Potter and Sims foods. The Alabama stores are owned by Western Supermarkets of ...

Re: The Atlanta Kroger they forgot to remodel
Tonight I was researching big star locations in Decatur, Ga and found two locations near the South Dekalb Winn Dixie. 2738 Candler Road. I remember a Big Star near South Dekalb Mall, this one was right across the street. Big Lots and Roses Stores are in the former location. Candler McAfee Shopping C...

Re: The Atlanta Kroger they forgot to remodel
The winn dixie at the Gallery at South Dekalb was opened in 1971. It was a free standing building built on the outparcel of south dekalb with no surrounding stores. It was in fact a regular winn dixie as late as 2001, then was converted to saverite. It was in fact one of the most neglected Winn Dixi...

Georgia's first enclosed shopping mall
I was recently on Wikipedia, and the listing for avondale mall has the notation "first enclosed shopping mall in Georgia. Which is false. The first enclosed shopping mall in Georgia was the Westgate Mall in Macon, Georgia. Westgate was built in 1961, completely enclosed at opening. The only mal...

Re: Info about Giant Mart???
There was a giant mart in Warner Robins, Ga. Based on Warner Robins Sun Ads, Big Apple in the Williams Plaza stopped appearing in print ads,and was replaced with Giant Mart at the same address. I do not believe that giant mart was related to the Altermans chain, Because there was another Big Apple t...

Re: Macon Georgia area History (Piggly Wiggly)
Oh, i forgot to talk about the Riverside K-Mart Piggly Wiggly. K-mart opened a store on riverside dr in 1968 with an attatched K-mart foods. When K-mart foods disbanded, Piggly Wiggly opened there (late 1975 to early 1976). There is no documentation to prove that Alterman or Colonial operated this s...
