Another Safeway bites the dust

Vons is building a new store at Broadway and Atlantic in Long Beach, and demolished the existing store. Safeway opened up there in 1966 and it became a Vons in 1989. Marina style store, but it was small.
Parking was a problem at that store, but not any more as they plan to have roof top parking.

The Ralphs was actually across the street on the corner of Crenshaw and Rodeo. The Boys opened in 1955.

Here's a picture of it now. Definitely Oxnard.

Several stores had a similar design. Vermont and Slauson, Upland, and one of the Vegas stores for sure.

Re: Zody's

Actually the El Monte/Santa Anita was a later style that Zodys went to. Here's a pic I took about 4 years ago.

Re: Ralphs Marketplace

"Glendora (655 N Grand, north of I-210) has a Ralphs Marketplace. It has sections that regular Ralphs/Fresh Fare stores don't have such as a full bulk candy department, full alternate foods department, plently of non-food merchandise, expanded grocery departments, and a drugstore style pharmacy...

Here's a shot of the Bakersfield Zodys before it was remodeled into a Home Depot.
This was probably the only store that was unchanged after they closed. Most of the Giants/Ralphs/Food 4 Less stores covered up the top portion of the store.

This store has a Slauson Address (1815 W Slauson Ave) yet faces Western Ave. I'm wondering if the address was changed when Pic-N-Save moved in as i have seen this done on many stores.

The Mayfair Market in the Travis video can also be seen in the movie "The Incredible Shrinking Woman" which i mentioned in another post. The Miracle Whip commercial looks like the same store, based on the tree in the first picture. (i still live in the area)

I'm not sure if this is the same store, but the Times has an opening for a Safeway in La Mirada on Dec. 20, 1960, Imperial Hwy at Luitweiler. Can't find Luitweiler in any map. Anyone have an address for this location?

In Granada Hills you have 2 Ralphs across the street from each other. One was a former Hughs Market, the other built as a Ralphs. Both bare the Ralphs name.
