Re: Food Fair/Thriftway/Harold Friedland Connection

Actually, the Adams Four Thriftway/GreatValu became a Fresh Grocer almost a year ago. Again, another store I serviced as a vendor (when it was a Thriftway), but their volume dropped to the point that it was assigned to another route. I haven't been back in the store since then, but it was a scary pl...

Re: The Last Former FoodFair/Thriftway inDelaware toClose

Actually, Grisillo's Thriftway (the one in New Castle) didn't close due to the embezzlement. It closed because Mr. Grisillo wanted to get out of the business. Acme, Parkesburg PA.

This store was opened in 1969, and closed in 2003, a year after a Wal-Mart Supercenter opened in nearby West Sadsbury, along US 30. I visited the store in either 2002 or 2003, but I hadn't been back since it closed. I was surprised to see it in pretty much the same condition, minus all the equipment...

Re: A VA/WV-area Acme Markets chain?

On a road trip a few years ago, I spent the night in Wytheville. It seemed like a good stopping point, and I wanted to see the Pepsi plant up close, I had only ever seen it from the highway. Imagine my surprise when I was driving around town and found the old Acme. I knew it wasn't related to the on...

Re: Safeway in Delaware

Was Safeway ever in northern Delaware? When I lived in Newark, I was told that the Possum Park Mall/Liberty Plaza was home to a Safeway, in the building to the far left where the Outback and Barstools & Billiards now call home. I was never able to verify that.
