Olson's Foods

Olson's was a local Associated Grocers member store that was primarily located in Snohomish County, WA. They were a grocer that was kind of like QFC and like Haggen, at least they were all pretty close in concept in the 1990's. Here's a interesting article about the the sale of Olson's to QFC. http:...

Re: B&B stores

I used to work for Fred Meyer. I believe B&B became part of Fred Meyer as part of it's purchase of the Roundup Company (a wholesaler) out of Spokane. There were locations in Kalispell, Columbia Falls and Polson. Eventually they all became Fred Meyer stores. But only the Kalispell store became a full...

Re: Old Burien Safeway (Top Hat) 11225 1st Ave South

I checked the Seattle Times database and found that it opened Nov. 30, 1960 and lasted until March 1981. In June of that year, it became an independent store called Ron's Food World. I live in the area and have for most of my life. I do not remember it being Ron's Food World. That does not mean tha...

Re: Seattle Area White Front Stores

Bubbabear, you are pretty accurate on most of what you said about White Front. But I do believe that Valu Mart did take over the Bellevue White Front. Until Leslie's/Valu Mart was sold to Fred Meyer, there were no large Fred Meyer stores in King County. All of the Fred Meyer owned stores were banner...

Re: Early Tully's Coffee outlets in Supermarkets

I was particularly talking about 1990's Tully's supermarket operations. I know that currently there are some in the Kroger owned stores like Fred Meyer and Fry's, plus Albertsons and Safeway. So anything from the 90's other than the early Burien Stock Market location?

Early Tully's Coffee outlets in Supermarkets

I know that there are currently Tully's Coffee shops in some Fred Meyer, Albertsons, Safeway and Top Foods outlets. I know that most of them are "licensed concept" stores. Not sure about the ones in Top Foods as I had not been in a Top that had a Tully's. So while we know the present supermarket ope...

Mayfair Markets running leased departments

I was just randomly looking for articles about the former chain of discount stores called Valu-Mart. While looking, I found a article about Villa Mart, which was in Oregon and was operated by Valu-Mart. In this article which I am posting here, I found out that in Eugene, OR, Mayfair operated the gro...

Re: Mayfair Markets - Geography and History

I know I am resurrecting a old thread about Mayfair. But I remember Mayfair Markets when I was a child. As stated earlier, they sold their Western Washington operations to Lucky by 1975. I do remember being in Mayfair one last time in 1980 in Newport, Oregon. But according to a earlier post, there w...

Re: Salem Center Mall, Salem, Oregon

If my memory serves me correctly, before this was called Salem Center Mall, it opened as Nordstrom Mall. I believe the Nordstrom was built as part of the mall. Nordstrom may had even been the developer of the mall. That was my understanding.

Broadway Market QFC

The Broadway Market QFC is one of the more unusual QFC stores in the chain. I could be wrong on the very early history. If I am, please correct me. But I believe that in the very early days, it may have housed a Safeway and possibly some other businesses. I do know for certain that in the early 1970...

Re: Aborted Fred Meyer in Phoenix

Yesterday, I posted in Retail Watchers the news that Kroger is going to put in a clothing department at a Marketplace store in Mansfield, Ohio. This sounds like it is going to be a Marketplace pretty close to being a Fred Meyer, other than the Smith's Marketplace stores. While I know that Kroger wa...

Re: Albertsons in Houston

And what I have never been able to find out is if any Kroger stores have Starbucks other than these. In case you had any doubts, these stores did from the beginning as Albertsons. I am a little surprised Kroger kept them. There would seem to be legal difficulties involved in just "inheriting" them ...

Re: Rite Aids with Pay 'n Save interiors

I think that store you are talking about is technically on the Kent side of Pacific Highway South. Des Moines would be on the west side of the road. But i will have to check that out!
