Re: Why has Acme closed so many stores (over the years)?

Simply stated, POOR UPPER MANAGEMENT!!!!! At Acme, the management from the 70’s and 80’s continued to expand the great Acme Markets family. Even LSScaggs did a little expansion, but started dismantling the company in the 90’s. Ever since Albertsons the company has declined. Any time shoprite opens w...

Re: Acme in New York

Well,Acme is back in New York State. And four stores in Connecticut are a first for Acme Markets. I have been to several of these stores and they all are in very good locations. The distance from their Lancaster, Pennsylvania distribution center is not very far. I believe these stores will do very w...

Re: Acme in New York

Acme was still in NY during the 80's. I was working for Kraft Foods in Central PA and in this area of NY state as late as 1994 and these ACME stores were all open then. Off the top of my head, I can remember Pen Yan, Hornell, Bath, and Watkins Glen.... all in NY state. All of them, at that point, w...

Oval and block logos from their trailers were removed on about 60% of there equipment in order to make deliveries to non-Acme stores that Supervalu sells to. All their tracto...

Re: More central PA Acme stores?

Albertsons is back in Denver, PA.
Albertsons and investment company Ceberus now control the future of Acme and a few other players in the food industry. Already Acme has started a comeback in their sales area.

Re: Acme in UP State N.Y.

To try to get the Acme/NY State discussion back in the proper forum, I've got a question or two then. Acme had a presence where I live. I know for sure they had a store in Johnstown which closed in late '73. I don't know for certain if this was a replacement for a smaller store they had closer to d...
