Re: The Vintage Supermarket (And Drugstore) "Smell"

All the older supermarkets in Southern California seem to have a Flourly scent to them, unless of there Albertsons then they have a strange fishy smell to them. Now old drug stores on the other hand smell like photographic fluids, and paper, at least to me anyway.

Re: If you could bring a defunct store back.....

Being from Southern California I would probably bring back Thriftimart with the giant T on the side of the building, and definetly GEMCO that was a great place to shop.

I went to the Westfield Topanga Mall, and ate lunch here http://local.yahoo.com/info-20671690-todai-restaurant-woodland-hills?tab=photos#photos I know this Todai Sushi was a Coco's resturant from 1985 to 1997, but I would like to know what it was originally, because it was built in 1966. Could it ha...

Re: Which chain once occupied these identical buildings?

In Lancaster there used to be a Coco's Restaurant located at 1525 W. Ave. K with the style of roof depicted in the pictures in this thread. I don't think this restaurant was ever anything else. The other cool thing about this restaurant is that there is a bubbled window by the front door that little...

Re: Original Jack in the Box sites

Lancaster has a rather old Jack In The Box with boxy style architecture. My grandfather used to eat there back in late sixties and early seventies. Suposedly this restaurant had salad bar back in the eighties. This location is near 10th st. and AVE K.

I just remembered a country music song by Diamond Rio called Bubba Hyde. It mentions something about Barney working down at the A&P and if you do a quick google search you can find the lyrics.

That interior reminds me of an abandoned Albertsons store I saw in Denver while on vacation last year. The store I saw was on West Colfax Ave and Kendall St.
