Re: Target, La Habra
Hey all, I'm new to the field of commercial archaeology, but have been interested in it for a long time. I can't believe there are so many interested in it as well. I am a history student but attempting a personal project tracing back major shopping areas in the Greater Whitter, North OC area to be...

Re: Leonard's Department Store in Southern California
Southern California had several locations of "Leonard's Department Store" in the 1950's-1970's. What's the history behind the Rowland Heights store on Colima and Batson (currently Hong Kong Supermarket)? (pictures at http://www.hongkongplazausa.com ). The store itself was pictured in a 19...

Re: KMart Cafeteria and Other Restaurants
Does anyone remember the ham in the deli? It was fantastic. I remember the KMart in La Habra/ Fullerton on Imp Hwy. At the time the Gemco was still across the street, this was about 28 years ago. There was a Handy Man there I believe. KMart then moved to a bigger location a few years later, into the...

I believe the one in the Brea Mall did too. It would be a great marketing strategy on their end if they brought it back. I remember the Swedish Fish, Chocolate Stars, and Caramel.

Re: Older McDonald's Locations
The La Habra CA McDonald's on Whittier Boulevard near Harbor Boulevard is an older site. Older in that it was built before drive-thrus were the norm. The drive-thru was added to the side of the building...yet it is far from the kitchen. I believe the restrooms are in between. So, to get the food to...

Re: Brea CA
Haven't been over there since April. Personally, This whole center is probably staying alive because of Lucille's, Bucca, Denny's, Starbuck's, and Borders. Its on the wrong side of the freeway to get noticed much, and on the wrong side of Imperial Hwy also.

A bit west on Whittier Boulevard, is a HUGE 99 Cents Only Store. It had a been a HUGE furniture store (Barker Bros?). Correct. It was once a 2-level barker brothers. I dont know if the 2nd level still exists in that store. There is a second level that you come in the doors through, that lead down b...

From the LONG GONE DEPARTMENT STORES thread...the following was stated by luckysaver: Was Leonard's Department Store a chain and if so, where else did they have stores? There was one in Rowland Heights back in the 1960's on Colima near Fullerton. It was paired with the old Colima Bowling alley, Mar...
