Re: Edwards in Ohio?

Thansk for that bit of info! I am enjoying this bit of retail archaeology in this area!

Edwards in Ohio?

Today I came across an old supermarket turned antiques shop in Medina, Ohio. The name painted on the front (largely obscured but I could still make it out) was Edwards. Does anybody know anything about the history of this store? It looks to have been an 80's build. http://www.flickr.com/photos/67661...

Re: Former supermarket, Elyria, Ohio

Ah, if you work for Apples, then maybe you would know what, if anything, the Abbe Rd. store originally was. I went in there after I photographed the Kroger Big Lots to pick up some Mello Yello. (Which you can't buy in Cuyahoga County!) I love your well-preserved ex-Tops out in Sheffield. I'd love to...

Re: A&P "A" Mart.

What was the GE in the Warren Village center (Warren & Edgecliff) originally? It has that same type of roof as the Bedford store, but I was told it was a Stop N Shop before GE.

Re: Former supermarket, Elyria, Ohio

I made a return trip to the area, and made a stop in at the "Superstore" prototype Kroger that replaced the location that is now home to Goodwill. The exterior is unaltered, but the interior has been heavily modified. Even the floor was replaced. http://www.flickr.com/photos/67661849@N00/4...

Re: Former supermarket, Elyria, Ohio

Google Maps still lists the Ridge View on the map... but when you look at the satellite view... dirt lot! Sorry I missed out on it, though, as I'd love to track down the former Pick N Pays and see what they are now. (I meant 1100 for 'KY... I was listening to jingles from 1110/WBT as I was typing) I...

Re: Former supermarket, Elyria, Ohio

Ah... you cleared up another mystery for me! I had been looking for the Ridge View shopping center! I found an old aircheck of WKYC/1110 and they were advertising a nightclub in that shopping center. I was curious about this place so I was trying to find buildings they had inhabited to get some idea...

Re: Former supermarket, Elyria, Ohio

Ah, so it WAS a Kroger? And I'm going to have to get out there once the roads are clear and check out that Superstore that's been Big-Lotted. I doubt they've left a lot of interior details intact like they have in other locations.

Save Mart: 80 W. Bullard, Clovis

Can anyone in the area tell me if this store has been remodeled lately? The interior was original 70's as of 2005.

Re: Former supermarket, Elyria, Ohio

I didn't get a good shot of it, but along this wall there were sections of tan tiling broken up with black stripes every few feet, similar to how the flooring is broken up with stripes of faux brick in those Kroger photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/67661849@N00/4195175001/in/photostream/ That, al...

Former supermarket, Elyria, Ohio

Going into a Goodwill today I was surprised to see some interior elements from a 70's era supermarket intact on the inside. There were different colored sections of flooring to denote different sections -- red at the back for meat, tan with black stripes for bakery I assume, and towards what used to...

Re: North Olmsted, OH: Was this a chain???

Ah! Thanks so much for that info! There's a "Taco Villa" chain in Texas, but that chain never got outside that state. I saw a lookalike building in Youngstown, Ohio, so I'm assuming this was a regional chain in NE Ohio in the late 70's/early 80's that either went under or got bought out.

North Olmsted, OH: Was this a chain???

There's an Asian restaurant in an interesting building at the corner of Sparky Ln and the Brookpark Ext. The architecture looks like something a chain would've come up with but I don't know what chain it would have been. There is a drive-thru in the building, but the current tenant does not use it. ...

Re: Big Lots

In Rocky River, Oh there's a Big Lots in an old Office Depot, and over in Cleveland there's one in part of an old Zayre (the other half is used by regional discounter Marc's). Another now-closed Big Lots was in Cleveland in a former Uncle Bill's store. In Fresno, CA there's the often photographed st...
