Re: Mayfair Markets - Geography and History

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll284/MarkAhriman/CucamongaMayfair.jpg A fb friend just posted this. It was located in Cucamonga (now Rancho Cucamonga) on Foothill Blvd. Rte. 66. I grew up shopping here with my mom. I'm guessing this pic is late 60's early 70's. To the left and out of frame was ...

Re: Kmart--automatic doors?

I opened store 7529 Rancho Cucamonga, CA in 1985. The store is now a JC Penney furniture outlet store. It didn't have automatic doors. When we would bring in carts the doors all had metal rods on top that when inserted into the jamb kept the doors fully opened 90 degrees. I worked there until 01-88 ...

Re: Cold Stone closings...replaced by Thrifty's?

The Cold Stone in Victorville was located in a gas station on the corner of Bear Valley Rd and Armagosa in the Dunia Plaza. I passed by it a few days ago and it is now a Thrifty's Ice Cream store. I emailed them and got a generic answer. Here's the email response: Thanks for contacting us. I'm sorry...

Re: Pavillions ever in Victorville?

I don't think it was ever a Pavilions. Vons actually debuted two other formats at the same time as Pavilions, both about the same size with similar layouts. One format was Tianguis, which was a Hispanic format that was initially very successful but faltered after Vons CEO Bill Davila had Cesar Chav...

Re: Contractors Warehouse/HDSupply, Pomona CA

I do know that they were a division of Grossman's. I had a boss at Home Depot that came from Grossman's many years before and since the store I worked at was close to the Pomona location, we would keep an eye on their business. I came across this article: Grossman's Inc is a retailer of lumber, buil...

Re: Nurseryland

I remember there was a location in the Montclair Plaza. It was behind Penney's up against I-10. I'm pretty sure the nursery in Rancho Cucamonga was a Nurseryland. It was located on Foothill Blvd. between Hellman and Archibald. It was on the south side and in the old Mayfair, then Perry's market park...

Re: Pup n Taco- southern CA

My first job was at the location on 4th and Vineyard in Ontario, CA. I was only there for a few weeks. I couldn't stand one of the people that I worked with and since I was still in high school, I just bailed. I went in the next day and demanded my check, probably like $20 or so. The manager just lo...

Re: History of: Kmart, City of Industry CA

Kmart always sold small kitchen appliances like toasters, mixers, etc. Larger appliances such as washers/dryers, refrigerators, ovens came about with the Sears acquisition of Kmart. As you may all know, Kenmore is the house brand. Many K's remodeled a section of their store and call the appliance a...

Re: Old JC Penney's ad

I love how some of the older stores used stylized P's in the designs like the one above. The others that come to mind that also do this are Montclair and Lakewood. Both have P flower designs. Its really funny to see this design on old stores that are now something else. This is from live maps. I gu...

Re: Rancho Cucamonga chain grocer history

I can't tell by the aerial view what it is today, but I'm pretty sure there was an Alpha Beta at the northwest corner of Base Line and Archibald. Yeah, the NW corner of Archibald and Baseline (16th street) was originally built with an Alpha Beta on the west and a Thrifty drug on the east with shops...

Re: Rancho Cucamonga chain grocer history

RandallFlagg, In your 7-11 post (Miscellaneous section), you mentioned a Mayfair Market on Baseline. Is that over by Amthyst St near Archibald? luckysaver I don't remember quoting it on Baseline. The store was located on the south side of Foothill Blvd. (Rte. 66) between Hellman and Archibald. I ca...

Re: Shopping Bag Food Stores In Southern California

304 E Foothill, Upland - DEMOLISHED/VALERO GAS STATION I don't live in the area anymore so I can't check, but I grew up in Cucamonga. The old Shopping Bag on Foothill in Upland was where my dad and fellow Sheriff's posse held their pancake breakfasts back in the 70s. It was later turned into a Sear...

Re: Carl's Jr. defunct additional chains

I remember a Tacos de Carlos location on Mountain Ave. in Ontario. It was just south of the Carl's Jr. location. Located on the west side of Mountain between 5th and 6th street, just north of the old Target/Fedmart/Whitefront building.
