Re: Pictures of '50s-'80s Albertsons Stores

In particular, I'd be curious to know what the exteriors of the following southeast Portland area locations used to look like:
3232 SE Harrison St., Milwaukie (this location was falsefronted around 1978)
4330 SE 82nd Ave.
940 SE 39th Ave.
4715 SE 39th Ave.
2323 SE 82nd Ave.

Pictures of '50s-'80s Albertsons Stores

Could you please try to find some vintage pictures of Albertsons stores dating from the 1960s through the 1980s? Why do I ask? Because, many of the pre-1976 Albertsons exteriors were false-fronted with the 1976 and later storefronts, removing the "A-L-B-E-R-T-S-O-N-S" lettering (whether re...

Burger King Units with Covered Pickup Areas

How long ago had Burger King (BK) restaurants been built with covered pickup areas (that is, the pickup window is in the covered spot)? I know the Eastport Plaza location at 3830 SE 82nd Ave. (unit #1740, built 1976) has it, but I can't vouch for how long it acquired it, though.

Re: Taco Time - Inside and Outside Clackamas Town Center?

Kelso's Three Rivers mall once had a Dairy Queen in the food court that coexisted with one across from the theaters on the south end of the mall for many years. The food court location closed some time ago, as has most of the food court in that dying mall. As for Clackamas Town Center, Arby's was n...

Taco Time - Inside and Outside Clackamas Town Center?

At least in the SE Portland area, there is one area that is unique for this occurrence: in the unincorporated Clackamas-Happy Valley area, there are not one but two Taco Time restaurants: one is inside the food court of Clackamas Town Center, while the second is outside the mall, sandwiched between ...

Re: Arby's signage

Were there any Arby's stores in the Portland area that had the original giant cowboy hat sign reading "Arby's Roast Beef"? I know I can't envision the 10499 SE 82nd Ave. store (inside the parking area of Southgate Shopping Center) as having one, though.

True Value Hardware Stores in Portland, OR

Does anyone remember the history of True Value Hardware Stores in Portland, OR and its outlying suburbs? Like all TVH stores, they were all independently owned and operated. For starters, I know many TVH stores were located in some Thriftway food stores (which, like TVH, were independently owned and...

Re: Arby's signage

According to the trademark filing , the just-replaced logo was first used in 1979, but I have seen it in print ads dating back to 1977. That new typeface doesn't look right grafted onto the old logo -- they don't fit together. According to Arby's itself, their prior logo dated to 1975 (meaning the ...

KFC 1977-91 Building Styles

Does anyone remember the exact timeline of the KFC 1977 to 1991 building styles? From 1977 to about 1982, the mansard-roof buildings had candy stripe motifs for the drive-thru pickup window and entryway. After 1982, though, the candy striped portions were removed and the mansard siding switched from...

Re: KFC TV Advertisements

I've come across similar juxtapositions in newspaper ads, actually: In the midst of my microfilm browsing, I recall seeing a 1979 ad that used the modern (78-91) typewriter logo in conjunction with a photo of pre-78 era packaging, and a 1981 ad that likewise used a photo of pre-78 era packaging. Do...

Re: Toys "R" Us in Tacoma, WA - Rebuilt from Flood?

The exterior was remodeled in 1995 to fit in with the newly constructed Boulevard Center big-box development adjacent to the store. I doubt a flood was involved, unless a sprinkler head burst or something. One thing that stood out to me about the ad is the reference to South Ferry Street -- that se...

Toys "R" Us in Tacoma, WA - Rebuilt from Flood?

Is there any proof that the Toys "R" Us in Tacoma, WA, just outside the Tacoma Mall, was rebuilt in the early 1990s after some sort of flood that occurred in this area back then? Why do I ask? The store originally opened in 1983, according to this vintage ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

I'd also want to say that when looking at some of the '70s-vintage buildings in aerial view, that the complete building forms a "T" shape.
