Basket Stores of Nebraska (and other states)

Hello, I wonder if anyone has information about Basket Stores. I'll share what I know to start it off. Basket Stores is the earliest example I have found of a discount grocery chain. Previously I was aware of A&P Economy Stores starting in 1912; Lutey's in Butte Montana in 1912; several stores c...

Seattle's Eba's Cut Rate Grogery

I'm getting very close to talking about Tradewell. Here is my article about Eba's. Like each of the preceding articles it has a map of stores in the chain. http://ba-kground.com/ebas-cut-rate-markets-tradewell-story-part-7/ I've also written two articles about individual stores. More to come, I'll a...

Seattle's Groceteria Stores

I recently wrote a history of Seattle's Groceteria Stores chain. In it I also touch on Piggly Wiggly (of Puget Sound/King County) which I intend to write more about. http://ba-kground.com/seattle-groceteria-tradewell-pt-3/ My end goal here is to reach 1959, with the resignation of Monte L. Bean from...

Re: Broadway Market QFC

Hi I replied to another instance of this question/post, so leaving it here as well: It looks (per the Seattle Times archive) that Broadway Market was initially a public market. There were dozens of these around the city, something like the Pike Place Market today with subdivided spaces for individua...

Re: Broadway Market QFC

Hi, It looks (per the Seattle Times archive) that Broadway Market was initially a public market. There were dozens of these around the city, something like the Pike Place Market today with subdivided spaces for individual vendors. Broadway Market opened in about 1929 and had space for 20 vendors. In...
