Rich's in Atlanta sold gas at the "tire and auto centers" in the old days (well, Rich's is gone anyway!!). In Eastern Europe, the mega stores (hipermarts) sell gas often. Auchan (French) sells gas in Hungary.

In SC, there were at least 2.... Bell Tower Mall in Greenville (now entire mall is county office building) and Dutch Square in Columbia (a dead mall??). We never went there much, usually the K was predominate. Bell Tower seemed to be an out-of-the-way location.

That Atlanta / Buckhead Target is super-cool.... but with neighbors like Nordstrom, Saks and Neiman Marcus, what do we expect. Imagine Wal-Mart swimming successfully in THOSE waters.

I worked at Winn Dixie in early 80's and on Sunday, because of Blue Laws, it was illegal to sell panty hose!

Must say.... very nice. Love the vertical blinds and all that glass. Looks like some of the things we have in Romania now... very post-modern ....one of our large grocers looks like a 60's airport terminal! I need to snap some shots.

I'm no expert, but Winn Dixie used to do those "army hangar style" buildings in Upstate SC in the past. The former carpet fashions building on Main St (which burned down about 3 years ago) was an example.

What a great question! I bet I'll keep coming up with answers. One thing to me is how it is such a connection to a time that is past. An empty grocery store, long since re-used as a bingo parlor, cheap furniture store or church, sits as a memorial to "the best they had to offer" at the tim...

Years ago in high school I worked at Winn Dixie and we'd often get our boxes of "store brand items" and when we opened the box, it would have other "private labels" inside, like Albertson's or other things (definitely not WD) ...anyway, we'd have to use it so we dump it a buggy a...
