FYI...it seems that since the update, it became difficult to attach more than one image to a post. Any second or third attachments get stripped when hitting "Preview" twice in succession, or hitting "Preview" then "Submit." I'll look and see what I can figure out when ...

Re: A&P, 1999

Many Farmer Jack stores had this as well. Here's a store turned independent after the FJ closures with the decor fully intact: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3278/2792396377_a1c5f068fe_z.jpg Seaway Marketplace, Former Farmer Jack (Taylor, MI) by Aaron Slater , on Flickr https://farm4.staticflickr.co...

Re: What is the oldest Safeway in operation?

Not sure if Vons stores count, but there's a 1940's Safeway-turned-Vons in Avalon on Catalina island still in operation today... It is sadly not long for the world, however: http://www.thelog.com/CatalinaConnection/Article/Avalon--Approves-Vons And there's plenty of Gable-era Safeway and Vons stores...

Re: Smith's Food King in Socal--with store locations

This one was disappointing. I took a picture in front of the former Smith's Food King in Indio last April. I see it burned down May 7th, 2015. http://www.desertsun.com/story/news/2015/05/08/indio-fire-businesses/27025861/ It was a cool store back in 1984 when it first opened. RIP I was wondering wh...

Could this store have been a Safeway?

BTW, I have fotos but don't know how to post them here........(jargon)

The architecture looks correct for a gable-era Safeway, I'd say your assumption is correct.

Three generations of Alta Dena branding on one shelf

A local 'farmer's market' store recent re-opened near me with a much better selection of food. But that's not the interesting part. The store carries Alta Dena brand butter. Most supermarkets only carry the quartered pound (four half sticks) in the newest retail packaging. This store also sells the ...

Re: Heir to Leaf Brands acquires abandoned Macy's legacy mar

I'm wondering, since he specifically calls out Robinson's and May Company separately, if he's considered the other trademarks of what we'll call"Macy's Legacy" stores relevant to the past 20 years or so: Robinson's May (product of the 90's merger of Robinson's & May Company) Hudson's (...

Heir to Leaf Brands acquires abandoned Macy's legacy marques

Here's an interesting article on Consumerist . Ellia Kassoff, heir to Leaf Brands (most famously known as the creators of Jolly Rancher candies, the brand was sold to Hershey in the US in 1996) Has made it a mission to resurrect 'nostalgic' brands. After successfully negotiating to re-use the "...

... although it had its own separate entrance and could not be accessed from the main store. This must have been Florida statutes at that time, because other chains which had liquor stores (Albertson's, Walgreen's) also had no access between the two stores. It still is a law in Florida :) Also, whi...

Re: Ralphs Giant/Former Zody's Locations

As an update to the Zody's-The Giant by Ralphs-Ralphs-Food4Less store on the corner of Beach Blvd & Lincoln Ave in Anaheim, the store lost its tall facade a couple years ago, and after sitting as a shell since then, has been split. The Thrifty store has been expanded more into the former Giant s...
