Re: The ever shrinking Winn-Dixie

It has been FOREVER since I logged in here but I did get an e-mail alert of recent posts. Of Course since I last posted here Winn Dixie was gobbled up by Bi-Lo and the combined company is today known as "Bi-Lo holdings" with Bi Lo moving their headquarters to Winn Dixie's facility in Jacks...

Re: Macon Georgia area History (Colonial-a&p and others)

Thanks for sharing that post card!

The hotel today is a Holdiay Inn Express. The resturant in front is now vacant but was an upscale Italian restaurant for many years. And the shopping center, while it was slightly remodeled is pretty much vacant.

Re: Albany, GA - Southgate Plaza

I didn't realize that it was over 3 months since I last visited this site. Sorry for the delay in answering this post. I don't have official confirmation about this location but based on "newer" retail locations very close by this shopping center and a look inside a 1970's Albany phone boo...

Re: Food Lion divisions

I should update from my previous post of 2 years ago. There are more Harvey's locations in the Middle Georgia area as there is a new store in Macon (the first of the Harvey's brand) on Shurling Drive. They renovated the interior of a former Piggly Wiggly/Foodmax/Bi-LO. The Piggly Wiggly closed in th...

Re: Retro Ingles

This is the "retro" Ingle's supermarket in Winder Georgia. Next door was space for a drug store but sinage in the windows indicate it was a former Dollar General store. 822 145_resize.JPG A larger NEW Ingle's was recently built next door to the original building and includes a pharmacy and...

Re: Acme in New York

There was an ACME in Flushing Queens on Northern Blvd at 156th street as late as 1979/1980. The store spent many years as a Key Food and is currently an H-Mart supermarket (Asian grocery store) GOOGLE MAP WITH STREET VIEW http://maps.google.com/maps?q=156-01+northern+blvd+11354&rls=com.microsoft...

Re: The ever shrinking Winn-Dixie

This was discussed on a local website regarding the two Georgia Winn-Dixie stores slated for closure. http://www.13wmaz.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=84428&catid=175 On the message board for the article one commentor said that I didn't know what I was talking about. Then another mentioned th...

The ever shrinking Winn-Dixie

July 28, 2010, Winn Dixie announces the closure of 30 "Underperforming" stores. This includes two stores close to where I live in Central Georgia that are each far from the remaining core markets where Winn-Dixie still maintains a presence. (My notes about store location in blue ) The list...

Re: Former Big Star/Colonial Locations Still Selling Groceries

As of July 2010, a former Colonial/Big Star in Macon Georgia is now open as a Save A Lot. The location on Gray Highway in East Macon was a Farmer's Furnature store for decades but was recently renovated as a Save-A-Lot. And they are currently restoring a former gym in Warner Robins GA which was orig...

Re: New York area: Waldbaums (Safeway?)

I was just inside the Associated supermarket that replaced the former Pathmark/waldbaums. I was in the store on August 16th and other than new "Associated" market sinage, the interior is doesn't seem any different than the former Pathmark which I was in on another visit to NY earlier this ...

Re: New York area: Waldbaums (Safeway?)

AP isn't putting a new store up in this location, and will stay empty. That other waldbuams is a nice store inside ! and does good business The store has a new tenant, a "Super Associated" market opened in mid June. I traveled to the area on June 25 to assist my 80something year old aunt ...

Re: *Photo*Questions About Former A&P Location In Roswell?

When Publix took over so many former A&P stores they more than likely completely demolished and replaced the building. The store in this thred definitely looks like a rebuild. The Publix at Ansley Mall in Atlanta was an A&P that I know was completely demolshed and rebuilt. That store closed ...

Re: New York area: Waldbaums (Safeway?)

That pathmark with the round roof (right next door to kassina farms which was safeway) has just closed for good. They have a lease with the owner till 2019 but if they cannot find someone to sub lease it too, it will stay empty till then. I was visting my Aunt for her 83rd birthday May 31st and I d...

Re: The Atlanta Kroger they forgot to remodel

The Food Bazaar was Winn-Dixie, which was unaltered most of its life. I believe it closed in the first Atlanta round of closings in 2000 that preceded the conversion to Save Rite. It was bascially unaltered most of its life and had a decor similar to a Kroger superstore, if somewhat less detailed a...
