Re: Market Basket Locations

The Albertsons in Granada Hills is closing soon. It was originally a Market Basket, then Smith's Food King, then Lucky, then Albertsons. It was never updated from the Lucky interior and the store was usually not very busy. The local Ralphs and Vons stores were always vastly superior and about twice ...

AMPAS hasn't torn down the store (yet) but the Big Lots has closed. It's been turned into a temporary art gallery for a benefit show:

Re: Ralphs - Crenshaw/Rodeo

That's actually the sign package that was used in the Alpha Beta-to-Ralphs transition (the store was a Boys but the transition was the same). They would close the store for a couple of days and install this package while Ralphsifying the rest of the store. As each store got fully remodeled they woul...

Re: West LA Marina Safeway to be closed in 2011

There some more info on the Echo Park Lifestyle remodel and pics of the West LA store at http://www.lottaliving.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=14871 I agree that the West LA store hasn't kept up with the neighborhood. You can tell it's been neglected, it's just too bad that there's not much that can be done...

The first IHOP location was at 4301 Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake, CA. It's now Mo's Restaurant.

West LA Marina Safeway to be closed in 2011

One of the last remaning Marina Safeways in LA, on Santa Monica and Barrington, is being torn down in 2011, to be replaced by a Pavilions a la the West Hollywood store. Rumor has it the Pavilions on Wilshire will then close. Details at: http://la.curbed.com/archives/2009/12/neighborhood_changer_groc...

Re: Target Chula Vista... Formerly...?

I agree with Jeff on everything. The Food4Less next to the former Ontario Target was previously a Ralphs with the same awning (but red), and it looks like you can see the Ralphs oval hiding behind the Michael's name on that picture.

Re: Serving [insert town] since [insert year]?

In my local Vons the sign originally said "Serving Granada Hills since 1996" which is when that store was built, but it was replacing a store at the other end of the shopping center that opened in 1960. The employees from the old store were annoyed that it didn't say 1960 so when they did ...

Re: Former Lucky-Monrovia

Interesting. The former Vons in Burbank that closed a couple of months ago is become a Henry's, also. I wondered what was going to happen to that store. Whole Foods had been trying to open a Burbank store for a while on Main and Alameda near Pavilions but local residents shot it down. Looks like He...
