'Rounded' Store Design

Lately in my travels I've seen a common store design, but I can't figure out who originally developed it. My guess would be Kroger, except I can't discern where it falls on their architectural time line. Kroger exited the St. Louis market in 1986, and Kroger was still building Greenhouses during thi...

Re: Kroger: Taylor, MI

I'd guess that it was originally built in the late 50's or early 60's. You can see where the original side entrance has been bricked up. Re: Kroger Superstore newspaper article, 1972

...I had been under the impression that Kroger seldom remodeled stores back then, and pre-superstore-turned-superstore conversions were by and large the exception to the rule. I'm curious what's become of those stores today... Another thing I find particularly fascinating is the "artist's sket...

Re: Kroger Family Centers

Add Paducah, KY as having a Kroger Family Center. Currently Paduch has 3 Kroger locations and is operated out of the Delta(Memphis) division. The store was fairly large and opened around 1972 or 1973 just as the Kroger superstore format was being rolled out. I knew I had seen a Kroger Family Center...
