Piggly Wiggly in Seattle

http://www.capitolhillseattle.com/2015/05/chs-re-take-piggly-wiggly-on-broadway/ Another history article from the Capitol Hill Seattle Blog, this one regarding the history of Piggly Wiggly stores in Seattle (which were, in a roundabout way, eventually merged into Safeway), as well as some of their c...

Re: Broadway Market QFC

The Capitol Hill Seattle Blog just posted a comprehensive history of the Broadway Market through its various iterations. Should be interesting reading for people curious about the history of this property. Link here: http://www.capitolhillseattle.com/2015/03/chs-retake-broadway-market-v1-0-created-b...

Re: Downtown Bellevue marina Safeway finally closed

http://downtownbellevue.com/2014/01/27/old-safeway-building-demolished-making-way-for-bellevue-collection-expansion/ Sometime last week, this store was demolished to make way for the expected second phase of Lincoln Square. There is still a former Marina Safeway in Bothell that has closed down, but ...

Re: Old Burien Safeway (Top Hat) 11225 1st Ave South

A couple of years ago, another grocer (a small independent called Your Local Market) took over the former Safeway in Downtown Bellevue, although I think in that case ownership of the property may have been transferred to Kemper Freeman even before the Safeway moved out. Either way, the new store las...

New grocery store in a former Centennial A&P - Bellevue

While I was out driving this past weekend, I saw that the former Centennial A&P store here in Bellevue currently in the process of being remodeled into a Grocery Outlet store. This store had previously been subdivided into several different smaller stores and one somewhat larger appliance store,...

Re: Mervyns

From what I can recall of it, it's also very similar to the store that was at Villa Linda Mall (now Santa Fe Place) in Santa Fe NM, which opened pretty close to the same time (early 1988, if I recall.)

Re: Early Tully's Coffee outlets in Supermarkets

Tully's was purchased last month in bankruptcy court by a group being led by actor Patrick Dempsey (most notable for his role on Grey's Anatomy) with the intent of trying to turn things around. A group led by Starbucks actually had a higher bid with intent to rebrand most stores to Starbucks, but th...

Re: Pictures of '50s-'80s Albertsons Stores

A little more digging in that photo archive found a couple more pictures of the Bellevue store: Side view of the building, including the sign View showing the side of the building (right side of the photo) Another thing to look at if you know approximate opening dates for stores is that frequently w...

Re: Pictures of '50s-'80s Albertsons Stores

I think I've posted this before, but here is a picture of an Albertson's exterior circa 1969 in downtown Bellevue. I believe this store lasted until sometime in the late 80s or early 90s, and is now a Cost Plus World Market (There's a photo of the parking lot and sign with the 1976 logo in the same ...

Re: UPC codes & grocery scanning

If I had to guess, I'd say they probably require things beyond simple POS functionality here, like parts lookup databases and detailed invoicing integrated in the system beyond the regular POS transactions, so it's probably a lot less of a hassle to stick to the old system than to try to integrate e...

Re: Broadway Market QFC

I finally managed to get back over to this store today to take a look, and I do have to say that is a very unusual layout for a store. The hardlines section of the store (which is somewhat hidden in the back and easy to miss if you're not familiar with the place) is hidden in the back, and the appea...

Re: Target '90s neon

The Redmond WA Target store (which opened in late 1995 as a Target Greatland) originally had the neon when it opened until it remodeled to the current design package around 2008 or so (then subsequently remodeled again to PFresh last year.) The Factoria Target in Bellevue (non Greatland) opened arou...

Re: Kmart 2000 closures

There was another round of closures with the bankruptcy in 2001, which is where the local store in Bellevue closed. On a couple of different occasions Costco considered building a store there (one time a concept for a Costco grocery store, the second time a conventional Costco warehouse) but backed ...
