Re: Stater Brothers - Whittier Bl, West Whittier

Something I do find interesting is the Stater Bros on Mission Ave and Plaza Camino Real in Oceanside. This store started out life as a Food Basket then became Lucky before being rebranded into Price Advantage/Food Advantage/Food Price Advantage/Super Saver (that was a lot of rebranding in one year!)...

Re: Stater Brothers - Whittier Bl, West Whittier

I think it's great that Stater Bros has at least added some new paint to stores which have yet to be remodeled, something Albertsons has yet to do with our old Lucky even after ten years. I'll be honest, I think the repainted former-Luckys look better than the remodeled Stater Bros... but that's jus...

I go to that Lucky on Craig whenever I am in Vegas (my fiancee's sister and brother-in-law live a few blocks south of the Walmart and Target that's a little further West on Craig so we always shop at the L...

Re: Max Foods Montebello Closing

I have been told that this former Lucky/Albertsons will indeed be one of the first new stand-alone Savon Drug stores to roll out later in the first quarter of this year. We'll see if this happens or not.... seems like it will though.

Growing up in Oceanside, CA, we had what was called "Allie's" that later became Coco's. Was Allie's apart of Bob's Big Boy? I remember they had a great buffet for breakfast and lunch. Sure missed it when Coco's tookover. http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=pj448456pk0y&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&di...

The pre-remodel Ralphs is identical to a former Albertsons in Hemet. 1/2 the building is Staples, the other half 99 cents only. It's been very crudely remodeled, with only the 99 cents only store remodeling the facade... it looks awful.

Ok, found Jeff's list of Gemco locations. I am 100 percent sure that the location I went to was the Escondido one. It is now an Albertsons/Savon.

Ok, I remember these quite well from growing up in the San Diego/North County area. I believe the original "Advantage" stores were rebranded "Lucky Advantage". The signage was a peach color, very modern for the early 90's. I remember the interior looking like an upscale Lucky of that era on steriods...

The one in Hemet was located on the SE corner of Sanderson and Florida. It's been a Von's for years now, and has been heavily remodeled both inside and out.

Oddly enough, the former Payless Drugs (now a Longs after Rite Aid sold out their converted Payless and Thrifty) by my house looked EXACTLY as this store did. They were called "future stores" and most of the aisles were placed on a 45 degree angle. The store now has hunter green signage around the s...

I seem to recall that another Oceanside "Big Bear" was later converted into a MiraCosta College campus and the one in Vista was also converted into a Mega Warehouse. I think Albertsons now resides there.

Alot of leases contain clauses that prohibit similar stores to enter the same shopping center (I am an ass. manager at a privitely owned Sandwich shop and we have a clause in our contract that says no other store can sell sandwiches). I remember the Albertson's in Oceanside didn't have a pharmacy un...

I was actually at the old Target in Moreno Valley, CA yesterday and it is now Rio Rancho Indoor Mall. I drove very slowly past the doors and could still see the intact Food Aveune as well a the 45 degree angled wall in the back corner that was the entrance to the fitting rooms. The store has been su...

There was a WT Grant store in Hemet, CA in the early to mid 1970's that anchored "Grant Plaza" with the neighboring Stater Bros. By the 1980's, Sears had taken over the property and in 1999, the building was finally closed when Sears joined the Hemet Valley Mall. Since then, the building was remodel...
