Meier & Frank Stores in 1985

It would seem to me that the 1977-era Meier & Frank logo, as can be seen in this photograph... http://www.angelfire.com/wa2/hwysofwastate/images/MandFClackamas.JPG ... was probably the only M&F ever to bear this kind of logo on the outside in the early '80s (I'm not so sure as to the insides regardi...

Re: Classic Malls in Portland, OR Before 1980

The Meier & Frank at Lloyd Center still had the old '50s logo on the exterior as late as 1988-89, according to this photograph:

Re: 1969 Safeway Locations In Portland

Sorry to bump this old of a thread, but I want to say that three of the locations listed date from the 1930s. They are, according to http://www.portlandmaps.com/ : 2240 NE Sandy Blvd. - opened 1940 2416 NE Fremont St. - opened 1938 1012 NW 21st Ave. - opened 1932 These three stores, all of which cea...

Re: 10 Most Unique McDonald's

I saw the episode, and enjoyed it. Wow. All those light bulbs @ the NYC site! I'll throw this site into the mix: http://www.flickr.com/photos/46066029@N04/4642883118/ The site is solely utilized for commercial filming. REALLY is in an odd spot. Thought it would've been placed closer to Los Angeles....

10 Most Unique McDonald's

I get a kick out of watching the Travel Channel special that is 10 Most Unique McDonald's , in which they document 10 of the most unique McDonald's all around the world. In order (store numbers where found): 10. 10207 Lakewood Blvd., Downey, CA (number #3 from 1953-96, #19956 from 1996) 9. 1560 Broa...

Re: How to Tell How Old a McDonald's Building Is, 1968-Up

I know McD's changed from cedar-shingled shake roofs to red at some point late in the '90s. The shake shingles actually disappeared in the 70's in favor of some clay shingles, which were supplanted by the metal roofing in the 80's. Mansard roofs were the way to go in '68. And they stayed around unt...

How to Tell How Old a McDonald's Building Is, 1968-Up

Hi, In the years after 1967 (at which point McD's had stopped using the Stanley Meston-designed architectures dating from the chain's true inception in the '50s), and when McDonald's was all set to unleash the current version of its famed "Golden Arches" logo, could anyone please tell me how to dist...

Retro McDonald's Locations

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3456/3867741426_c3b0cd691e_z.jpg?zz=1 Retro McDonald's by burgermafia , on Flickr Does anyone know exactly when the first of these so-called "retro" McDonald's had opened? These, of course, are meant to resemble the original 1950s-'60s McD's stores. Were the very firs...

Re: Older McDonald's Locations

Does anyone remember the first McD's established in the Pacific NW, ever? It is in Portland, OR at the corner of NE 122nd Ave. & Glisan St. The location opened on February 26, 1960, and was managed by a group of employees headed by Oliver W. "Ollie" Lund. The address proper was 551 NE 122nd Ave., bu...

Re: Pay Less-Safeway and Pay Less-Albertsons Combos

The old Tanasbourne Mall in Hillsboro was anchored by adjoining Safeway and Pay-Less stores. I believe they went up in the mid 1970's. The current Safeway on the west side of 185th (Tanasbourne Mall was on the east side of 185th) replaced that store around 1990, and the mall property was demolished...

"Same shopping center" is what I really meant.

How far back can one envision a Pay Less Drug-Safeway or Pay Less Drug-Albertsons combo in the Portland/Vancouver area? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JueXkAznhqA/TWwZ9N-KrsI/AAAAAAAAEK4/axqDbS3MVLI/s1600/Pay%2BLess-Safeway%2B1961%2Bpleasantfamilyshopping.jpg http://pleasantfamilyshopping.blogspot.com/20...

Dairy Queen Through the Years

Hi, Has anyone here ever discussed all about, at length, the various Dairy Queen (DQ) restaurants through the years? You know, their Chicago beginnings with their first location in Joliet, IL (opened 6/22/40) and then their famous "lips" (which I also think looks like a football) logo that they used...

Re: Older McDonald's Locations

I was at the new McD's the other day on Valley in Rosemead. Something unique that I never knew was that the original a few blocks west was originally an arch building built in the late 50's and was identical to the one in Downey. They have pictures of the store in the 70s as it was getting expanded...
