Old Target (Fedmart) in Ontario s of I-10 at Mountain

Does anybody know the previous history of the old Target on Mountain in Ontario? I remember this as a Fedmart when I moved to Chino in 79. Target went in and divided the building and the left side was a Ralphs Giant, then a Ralphs, then a Food4Less. There is also an old Toys r Us in this center. Thi...

Gemco Anaheim

Drove by the old location of the first Gemco in Anaheim with my dad the other day and he claims that the current Target on the north side of Lincoln is where Gemco was. I remember that building as Fedmart as a kid and Gemco was on the south side of Lincoln. Any help from anybody?

Porcelaine shopping cart signs

When I was working for Superior Super Warehouse in Southern CA I ran into a guy servicing the carts at the South El Monte store that repairs shopping carts. This guy told me he was a former worker for Technibilt who used to make shopping carts for almost all of the retailers here in southern CA. He ...

White Front selling groceries

On another locked thread I saw somebody asking about White Front selling groceries. Yes some of them did. I can speak for the store in Anaheim as I grew up there as a kid and would go shopping with mom, dad, and sis. I also remember getting one of those beds that looked like a race car there. Wish I...

McCoys Gardena

Yes now that I hear it the name was Cal Fed obviously not related to the banks lol! That store had several independent stores inside, electronics, clothes, shoes, and of course the McCoys which was later and independent grocer called Big B Warehouse.

National Lumber

Wow...another great memory of a long gone store. I remember the shorty and cheap chicken characters too. I'll look up the commercials. I saw somebody post that they saw old tv commercials on you tube. Yes I remember the National Lumber south of the 60 fwy in Ontario. I think off of Vineyard. Yes it ...

McCoys Markets

Oh yes I remember the McCoys in Gardena. It was a store inside a dept. store kind of like the Gemco concept except that the dept. store was different owners, I think it was called Cal Grant or Grants. I bought my first Beta VCR and had to finance it because it was so expensive.

McCoys Markets

Yes I remember the McCoys on Ball Rd in Anaheim as a kid and like I read in another thread, lots of flies. I remember poking holes in the shrink wrapped packags of lard. My first job in a supermarket in 1979 was with a former McCoys manager that opened his own store in Ontario called Klapps Market, ...

ABC Markets South Central Los Angeles

I saw in other posts some mentions of ABC Markets. In the 80's Superior was competing with them agressively. I remember at least 2 of the stores on Manchester. Superior had a lady that was the GM buyer that stated that the main office for ABC was located in a basement below one of the stores and tha...

Tianguis stores taken over by Superior

Superior also took the Tianguis stores in Cudahy at Atlantic & Florence originally built by Vons. Don't know the site history prior to Tianguis although I seem to remember a field there in the 80's. Also the Tianguis in Huntington Park on Pacific near Slauson, there is an In-n-Out burger in the ...

Superior East LA Cesar Chavez Ave

When Superior took over this store I could see some of the logo scars of the ribbon S logo on the walls when it was gutted out. Another feature was the flooring that had been covered over. It was that marigold beige color, major project to remove. That must have been a very early Safeway as it is a ...

Crawfords El Monte

The F4L is across the street from the old Crawfords (now Mi Pueblo). From speaking with salespersons in the grocery industry, the store was a very busy store in its hey day selling entire truck loads of bathroom tissue in 1 week. I was working for Payless Foods when they took over the Crawfords in D...
