Big Lots Western/Slauson

Was this location a Safeway? For some reason it just reminds me of a Safeway. As far back I can remember it has always been a Pic N' Save but it just looks like it was a grocery store at one point...or am I wrong?

One store that always facinated me was the Beverly Hills Pavilions. It's size just amazes me. They were able to fit every department in such a small space. This has to be the smallest store in the company. Has this store changed much from when it was Safeway?

I thought that store was a gable? I used to work at that store and saw nothing that looked "Marina"...there is proof though that at one point in time it was a Gable. A Marina I am 70% sure it wasn't....though I could be wrong. You're right. I thought I read here somewhere that it was a Marina store...

I haven't seen a "Pavilions Marina" style store other then the one in Santa Monica although I could be wrong. I believe the West Hollywood store is a former Marina, though it's been heavily remodeled. I thought that store was a gable? I used to work at that store and saw nothing that looked "Marina...

So what exactly was/is different about a Lucky/Sav-on or Albertsons/Sav-on combo? I have been to one Albertson's store in North Hollywood that has a complete Sav-on side. Do you mean the one at the corner of Van Nuys Blvd and Sherman Way? That store was supposed to be a Lucky/Savon to replace a for...

This might be a lil off topic, but does the Kroger Sav-On have/had any relation to the former California chain?

Those pictures are very interresting! I wish there were more smaller "neighberhood" stores still around.

AVIS Grocery Store

Hey all! I had a customer come in with some very interresting items (i have a ebay consignment store). He brought in some books from the late 1800's which included a "city directory" for the city of Pomona. I was looking through the book which had pictures and came across a grocery store called "avi...

Geico has a new commercial...the second in their Michael Wallace "Geico Chevrolet" Busch Series ads...where Michael's "cousin" is trash talking. There's a brief scene where the kid is "putting him in the wall" in the freezer section of an older looking store. Pretty funny ad. that store looks to be...

I believe that Thrifty Drugs was a name used by many Rexall-affiliated independent drugstores in the Puget Sound area during the '50s and '60s. It's my impression that these stores had no connection with the actual Thrifty chain based in California that later merged with PayLess -- correct me if I'...

Advantage Super Markets

I was recently on wikipedia reading about Gemco, and I ran into this

"National City: Lucky converted the GEMCO location into a high-end prototype supermarket called Advantage"

I've NEVER in my life heard of this store! Does anyone know this store/chain?

Thanks!

Were FedMart and FedCo the same company...? No. FedMart was a standard for-profit company. Fedco was a non-profit, membership-only store where the members owned the company. A good comparison would be a bank vs. a credit union, thought Fedco didn't paint "member-owner" on every parking spot. :) Fed...
