Were FedMart and FedCo the same company...? No. FedMart was a standard for-profit company. Fedco was a non-profit, membership-only store where the members owned the company. A good comparison would be a bank vs. a credit union, thought Fedco didn't paint "member-owner" on every parking spot. :) Fed...

Just be honest OR Tell them that your doing a report on supermarket history. Most of the store managers will let you do it if you let them know why you are taking pictures. You could also use a camera phone with a decent camera. Ive never had any problems with takin super market pics.

I can't remember what movie I was watching, but about a year ago I was sitting in front of the TV and there was a supermarket scene in a movie. Well, I realized my passion for supermarket history and architecture might be going a bit far when I mumbled, "I bet that's a Safeway" upon seeing the elec...

the pak n' save chain was owned by the Vons Companies till Safeway bought them out. And what came with the buy out was the Vons stores, Pavilions stores, and Pak N Save stores. Vons "invented" the chain to compete in the "low end" market ( e.g. food 4 less). it was a spin off from the Vons Company ...

Reviving this topic... - In the "divested regions" thread I started a week or so ago, I found and posted photos of several SoCal Vons marinas (Long Beach, Carpinteria, and the Alvarado store)... - The Highland Park store, according to this shot from Live Local, operated as a Pic N Save for a spell:...

Re: Pavilions

That's cool that you remember the Garden Grove Pavilions. It was the first store in the chain and replaced an existing and very successful old Vons in the same shopping center. I thought the Monrovia store was the first Pavilions. At least that's what I was led to believe. If I remember right the f...
