Re: Extinct Supermarket Merchandise

They must have started the "Best Little Cookie Company" marketing after they were sold by Parmalat, which would be the very opposite of "little" anything.

The Archway bakery in Oregon was bought by US Bakeries/Franz a few years back. Cookie Parade will, however, be missed.

Re: Does Anyone Know Where This Freddy's is Located?

I don't think it's South Salem - that vista wouldn't be possible on that site. If by "North Salem" you're referring to Keizer rather than the Lancaster Dr. location, I could buy that. . .

Boise Cascade had lumberyard/home improvement stores in the early 80's around Idaho; Emmett was definitely one of the locations.

The West Seattle Godfathers location went from Godfathers to gay bar to foofy bistro over the last seven years.

The remaining one in Kitsap County in Port Orchard is in a dead mall, and is *quite* grim.

tkaye: So aside from the downtown Bremerton HoV, did PayLess NW (K-Mart subsidiary) have any presence in Bremerton/Silverdale prior to the the P'n'S buyout? My only guess would be that the Wheaton RiteAid location with the now-abandoned Lowes/Eagle and Albertsons could have been PayLess NW at one po...

Next to JoAnn? Totally built as a Payless store, in 1979/1980. That center was part of the Silverdale growth from the opening of Subase Bangor. The Safeway there is a newbuild as of about 2000ish - the original layout had Payless where Rite Aid is now and the Hallmark store where the road is between...

It seems like the Salem location for sure, and the Eugene location (probably) ended up as PACE warehouses at one point.

The Arcade Cafe. Of course. I can't imagine that color scheme having looked nearly so chic in 1989. This name comes from their subterranean Arcade level with food options at the downtown Seattle store. Actually, at least one full-line Nordstrom store that I'm aware of doesn't have a Cafe - Salem Cen...

Not a food court, but the Roseburg, OR location has (had?) both a mall entry and exterior entry. Skippers really got shafted when they got bought by National Pizza, a group out of Kansas, which is, as I'm sure everyone is aware, is a hotbed of seafood expertise. They instantly started to devalue the...

Funny, I was just wondering about this topic when I went for pizza last night. There's a Big5 in Gig Harbor, WA, in a strip with a Safeway and what is now a Goodwill thrift store. The Big 5 backlit signage appears to be in the "Thrifty Oval", but there are a couple of...odd features... Fir...

During that era, though, most Fred Meyer stores had extensive street-facing retail space that was leased to outside tenants - usually a hair salon, a locksmith, a laundromat, an ice cream scoop shop...I seem to recall more than one Radio Shack...possibly a Hallmark or two. These constructions contin...

In the Northwest: Most larger Nordstrom stores have at least one restaurant and an espresso bar. Seattle Downtown and Bellevue Square both have two restaurants - a Cafe and a "Men's Grill" sort of concept. I've been a fan of their clam chowder for (eep!) thirty years. The parentals could c...

Which store at State and Glenwood are you referring to? PayLess originally was located in the Plantation Shopping Center. Some time in the 1980s, a new Albertsons opened across State Street, and a new Skaggs Drug Store, which had a sign reading "Skaggs Drug and Home Center" Osco Drug took...

Stone Way is long gone - the store must have closed in the 98-99 time frame. It hasn't been redeveloped yet, and the last time I was by the site in the daytime, it still had some fixtures and refrigeration in it, I think.

Payless had some other monster locations- one source reports stores as large as 68,000 square feet in the mid-80s - some downtown, some in strips....I seem to recall these being branded as Payless SuperDrug.... Roseburg, OR comes to mind as one with a huge footprint in the downtown - I believe it ha...
