Re: Thrifty (and Other Rite-Aid Legacy Brands) Ice Cream

Thanks for the info luckysaver! I also mentioned to the clerk the OLD prices from years back for a cone...and she said she honestly hears about 'em every day! Still mid-80s, the pricing was .15 for a single scoop, .30 for a double, and .45 for a triple. Before my time...they had been .05, .10 and .15

Re: Thrifty (and Other Rite-Aid Legacy Brands) Ice Cream

Spoke with a clerk at RiteAid...about how I could tell the site had been Thrifty.

She said her/their paycheck STILL say Thrifty.

I guess the Thrifty sites are ran as an entity within RiteAid?

Re: Market Basket Locations

The Market Basket location in Hacienda Heights CA was on Hacienda Boulevard @ Newton Street. I only remember it being a Market Basket, someone stated it had been something prior. It did not have the huge "woven thing" as the typical sites did. It became Ralphs. Then Osco, I believe one of ...

Re: Blythe CA

The Safeway in Blythe was converted to a Ford dealership. It closed before Vons took over. Are you sure it closed before the Vons takeover? I just looked at Google Maps, and that parcel is still labeled as "Vons Shopping Center". I pulled that line from within another thread...so I cannot...

Re:

I'm guessing that you're talking about the Hughes/Ralphs on West Whittier Blvd (near Idaho). Do you happen to know if the Big Lots (former PicNSave) on the northeast corner of Harbor/La Habra was also a Market Basket. The woven tower logo has always made me think that it was. And there was another ...

Re: Former IHOP locations

One location of note: The IHOP in Valley Plaza is still there at 6540 Laurel Canyon Blvd. This IHOP was originally a House of Pies and converted sometime in the late (?) 1960s to the pancake house. This might trigger another topic--but I know of only one House of Pies remaining in the LA area, way ...

Re: Market Basket Locations

Noticed a site in Cathedral City CA, the same as in the picture within this thread. The site was divided into 68-401 & 68-399 Highway 111. One side is REVIVALS (thrift shop?), and the other side is BETTER HOMES & BARGAINS. I guess the later had too many bargains...as it was going out of bus...

The former Cliftons Greenery in West Covina is now part of the Sears store next door. They keep it stocked with Appliances and such. Hey Jeff~ Is the building still there? While whizzing by on the 10 last week...I looked...and couldn't see the old Greenery building. Did I miss it?! Wild to see the ...

Re: Van de Kamp's Restaurant Sites

That's the one within City of Industry! It must have opened around '74 or '75 since Esther Cramer never updated the book. Thanks! luckysaver Sure! The Superior market in that center opened as Zody's. I went to the grand opening. A member of the Dodgers came! It then became HomeClub, then morphed in...

luckysaver wrote:Then where exactly in City of Industry was Alphy 3431?
There was an Alphy's at Hacienda & Valley. The last time I was in the area...it was Denny's.

Alphy's had the distinct building...with the large round window on the side.

Re: Blythe CA

On the way back...was able to swing again through the booming Blythe. Had not looked at the Ford dealer...until I found the other posting. Yup. Indeed had been a grocery store. Will try to actually stop into the dealer next time to see if there are any remnants from Safeway. What is funny tho...is t...
