Re: Billings, MT Old Store Photos
I guess Safeway did not do register updates, because they did not expect to keep the stores... Homeland in OK/KS did not have scanning until the mid to late 90's, it was probably one of the last chains to make that move. Or maybe that honor goes to Trader Joe's. In the late 80's, every Safeway I eve...

Re: Target '90s neon
The Carson City, NV Target still had the neon decor original to its 1995 opening until 2019 when it was finally remodeled. It wasn't much of a remodel- basically just repainted the walls, put in new carpets in clothing areas, switched the never open Food Avenue to a now actually open Starbucks, and ...

Re: Was "Skaggs Alpha Beta" used in California?
Let me get this straight regarding the history of Alpha Beta, just so I'm covering all the bases: Meanwhile, all the Skaggs Alpha Beta stores in NM, OK, and TX, got turned into Jewel-Osco, and that only lasted a year before those stores got sold to Albertsons (along with the Jewel-Osco stores in Fl...

Re: Kmart checkouts over the years
That is true. As you can see in the receipt example this logo/style is sort of strange. I guess it is really a lower case x with a very small T on top.

Re: Jerrys
Jerrys was bought last year, sold by Doty (more on who that is at the below article), what was left of it anyway, and has put a website up. www.jerrysrestaurants.com https://www.franchisetimes.com/article_archive/my-diner/article_532fbec2-5b74-5fb8-9410-f3a8b06448ef.html From what I can tell here ba...

Re: Kmart checkouts over the years
No, it was not the RX symbol. Someone had an example posted. https://imgur.com/gallery/0iXLmZ5 Interesting this receipt says "Payless Drugs NW." Their receipts in CA just said Payless Drug but looked exactly the same. Also the "2830" after Renton, WA would be the store number (wh...

Re: Kmart checkouts over the years
I remember the system Payless Drug used- they had scanning before any other drug store had scanning. The receipt came out of a slot right next to the keyboard (keybord and printer and cash drawer were a single unit). The receipt only listed 8 letters for item descriptions. They had an odd TX symbol ...

Re: Food 4 Less & Fleming Cos./Food 4 Less history
The way it was explained to me was back when Fleming had F4L, basically either Fleming or (then Ralphs - so Falley's I guess) had rights to the name in a given market. It was either one or the other. Both did not have the name in a given market. So that is how you got Kroger F4L organically expandin...

Re: Max Foods
There was a new construction Grocery Warehouse in Farmington, NM in the 00's. It was converted to Albertsons a decade ago. That was probably the last new construction store under that name. It has its original interior. I have seen this interior in a few other Albertsons locations. Supervalu did get...

Re: NEW: Yuba City and Marysville, 1925-1982
1912 Covillaud was run by Holiday (chain) into the 90's and 00's and then sold to some independent (who kept using the Holiday name but changed it to a red sign) or maybe multiple independents and for a while was basically just a giant convenience store. A few years ago it was taken over by someone ...

Re: Former Albertsons Locations in Northern California
www.abc.ca.gov is a good starting point. Save Mart's store numbering scheme also designates the former Albertsons roughly as follows: Stores 5xx- Nevada former Albertsons Stores 6xx- California former Albertsons, rebannered to Save Mart *some stores in Salinas/Santa Cruz/Capitola were initially reba...

Re: Kmart checkouts over the years
It seemed like in the early 90's they got different equipment and it was from a variety of providers. In the late 90's Kmart had managed to move most of the locations to the IBM Supermarket Software even if they were not using IBM Hardware. For a while Kmart ran its old software in the non-Supercent...

Re: Placerville, CA Lucky
This store, still open as Save Mart, has some large blow ups of their grand opening ads and ground breaking ceremony from the local newspaper archives now posted on some coolers above the 3 beverage department endcaps. Pretty sure those weren't there a few years ago when I last went into this store....

Re: Kroger closing in Hannibal and Louisiana, MO
Warrenton, MO Kroger closed June 25, 2019.
Can't say I am surprised... store had little business when I was there a few years ago. A new Schnucks opened nearby last year.
Still very sad to see these old Krogers going.
