Re: What did this CVS used to be?

Thanks! Did Woolworth here close with the chain in 1997? Because the fixtures look pretty old, and I'm surprised Longs would have kept Woolworth ones. There was a Woolworth in Easton PA which closed in 1973 and became an early Rite Aid, which lasted until it closed in 2006. Family Dollar is there no...

Re: Similarities Between Texaco and Shell Signage

Here's a really strange case: there's a big and busy Shell (with a Burger King in it no less!) in Junction City, Kansas which was less than 500 feet away from a Texaco. The Texaco is now an independent gas station, but I would have assumed the Shell was a former Texaco if I didn't know better. Could...

What did this CVS used to be?

There's a CVS on University Ave in Palo Alto, CA (I don't know the address) which is in a downtown area. I get the feeling it was either a Sav-on or Longs Drugs acquired by CVS. But it also could have been a Woolworth or Kresge before that. I'm surprised it's still open being very close to a relativ...

Re: Former Boston Market locations in your area

In Avenel (Woodbridge) NJ, in front of the KMart/Pathmark strip shopping center there is/was a Boston Market that was once a Roy Rogers. I don't recall whether it still is one or not. Sorry to go off the restaurant topic, but I have been looking for some Avenel area history for a few years now. Do ...

Re: Does this gas station look like it was a Mobil?

The Sunoco at Township Line Rd (US Rt 1) and Burmont Rd in Drexel Hill PA (not far from Clifton Heights) appears to have been built as a Mobil circa 1966. It has a very "boxy" service center building, similar to the former Mobil in Audubon PA which is now a Liberty (and sits almost next do...

Re: Havre DeGrace former Acme to become SavA Lot

CVS had wanted this site, but built a store in the parking lot instead due to some lease issue. It seems so weird that they would build a new store in front of a small plaza where the anchor store is empty. There had been an Eckerd in the center which moved across the street to a standard 90's drive...

Pre-1980s Randalls stores

Randalls never really made it big until the early-mid 80's, and I personally never heard of them until that time. But I heard about a 1975 Randalls on I-45 somewhere which has since closed. Unfortunately the current tenant is unknown to me and was not in my source. Did Randalls from this period have...

Re: Havre DeGrace former Acme to become SavA Lot

Anyway, the Acme in Havre de Grace was really unique. It was more rectangular than square, not quite like any other Acme I know of. Yet it had a smaller version of the standard late 60's/70's Acme facade.

Re: Havre DeGrace former Acme to become SavA Lot

Did this A&P have a "barrel" roof, similar to the standard Penn Fruit design?

Re: The Chestertown Acme A Frame is to be renovated

Storewanderer, not sure why you called it the "Jewel" interior, but this Albertsons in Albuquerque apparently started as a Jewel, and its decor matches the Chestertown store as it looked until recently: http://www.flickr.com/photos/16441604@N07/2504773564/ What's amazing is that the Jewel/...

Re: The Chestertown Acme A Frame is to be renovated

Here's a picture of the Pike Creek store: https://www.acmemarkets.com/stores/view ... ityId=7826

It still has the "angel wings" which were on the store when it was built in 1973. As of the last two years, I know they were still there.

Re: The Chestertown Acme A Frame is to be renovated

Will the old facade be taken off the Pike Creek store this time? If so, the Trolley Square, Oxford PA, Germantown PA, Middlesex NJ, Sea Isle City NJ, and Stevensville MD Acmes will still have the 70's model.

Re: The Chestertown Acme A Frame is to be renovated

As of the past few years, didn't this store have early 2000s Albertsons decor (as in the "seafood & meats" sign on the back wall) but still have its 60's fluorescent lighting? It's ironic because the Acmes in Willingboro NJ and Morrisville PA (which are near each other) both opened in ...

Re: Similarities Between Texaco and Shell Signage

A lot of the DE/MD/VA Mobil stations became either Valero or Sunoco. The Mobil in Essington PA also is a Valero now. And the Mobil in Farmers Branch TX is a Texaco now, and Texaco reused the Mobil sign! There also was a Mobil on 202 in Wilmington DE which was later Shell, but has since closed.
