skaggs alpha beta

I agree with you that it's sad that Jewel supermarkets couldn't make it in other areas out of their basic Chicago market area but some chains and it really doesn't doesn't matter what their names are just weren't meant to succeed because of several factors involved. For example in Oklahome first the...

Market Basket Stores in the 1970's

I'm not really familiar with the Kroger greenhouse type stores but I will tell you what I remember from having worked at Market Basket. I worked and opened 2 new Market Basket Stores in Calif. in the late 1970's and those new stores were probably about 35,000 to 38,000 sq.ft. , the outside decor was...

What casinos did Food Fair own in Las Vegas

Hi Steve I wasn't aware of Food Fair's casino ownership. I knew that grocery store chains often owned their own cattle ranches and operations like that. I used to read my dad Progressive Grocer Magazines and any other kind of grocery business publication and I just enjoyed reading about all of the o...

Does anybody remember the A & P stores in Southern Calif

I remember one in Santa Ana, Calif. and it was run just like all the other A & P stores of that time. Just another regular grocery store with nothing special about it at all. It didn't look much like the A & P stores in the midwest but more like a Boy's Market or a McCoys Market in a strip c...

Does anyone remember Market Basket Stores in Southern Calif?

I was wondering if anyone remembered the Merket Basket Grocery Store Chain in Southern Calif. (owned by the Kroger Company). I worked for this company until I moved to Oklahomo. Does anyone remember McCartney's Grocery Stores in Okla.

I was wondering if anyone remembers ths McCartney Grocery Stores which operated in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Enid, Oklahome. I always thought it ironic that they chose as their signage logo the big M from the Maytag Company and that Maytag never sued them for using part of their logo look. Here is a...
