Re: Former Arby's locations
Arby's in Wappinger Falls and Kingston ,NY have closed within the last few months. The operator filed for Chapter 11 December 2009. And the Kingston one just re-opened within the last month (or so) ... as a Popeye's chicken. Interesting. The former Arby's in Wappinger Falls is to become a Nathan's ...

Re: Edwards/Finast/Super Finast
I remember Edwards in Poughkeepsie, NY before it was turned into a Stop and Shop around 2000. Stop and Shop eventually tore down the old Caldor and built a Super Stop and Shop. Was this Edwards most northern store in New York?

Re: Great American Stores Upstate NY
As to the demise of Victory Markets, Inc, of Norwich, NY... In about 1989 or 1990, Victory Markets purchased 7-8 stores in the Albany area from another chain. They weren't well marketed and not well received. This was I believe during the era of ownership by an Australian holding company, whose nam...

Re: Great American Stores Upstate NY
I believe that in this tread, I believe that I left the web Site to and upstate paper that had a decent history of the company. Thanks Gerry The link no longer works, but I sent an email to the Daily Star asking for info on that article. No reply yet... BDK

Re: Great American Stores Upstate NY
I don't remember the Jeffersonville, NY store, but there was a Great American in Port Jervis, NY, which closed in early/mid 1999. As the original poster of this thread noted, there is very little information about Great American stores and their history.

Re: Grand Union
I apologize for my last reply. I meant to say that GU markets currently has a store in Massachesetts. I must have skipped over the 6th post of this topic, as Grand Union did not have stores in MA. I also learned today they had no RI stores. My mistake....

Re: Grand Union
I just came across some paperwork of Grand Union stores operating as of 8-2-2000 in the states of NY, CT, NJ, VT and NH (their Northern Division). There was nothing for MA and RI. I know Grand Union had stores in Massachusetts, but did they have any in Rhode Island? If anyone wants store info, I'll ...

Re: Waldbaum's in upstate New York
I remember that Waldbaum's in Vails Gate. I believe it opened sometime in 1982. I was not aware that it was a Barker's at one time!! Also, there was a Basic's at the other end of that plaza in the early 1980's....

Re: Waldbaum's in upstate New York
GU Family Markets does not have any stores on Long Island/NYC anymore. I believe they exited that area in 2001. Their closest store is now Millerton, NY, located in Dutchess County.

Waldbaum's in upstate New York
I am curious as to how far north Waldbaum's reached in New York state! I remember Kingston (now partly a Staples) and Wappinger Falls (rebuilt as Hannaford). I am also aware that Waldbaums purchased Foodmart in Massachusetts, but I believe this did have any bearing on New York operations. I looked o...
