Food World, Kissimmee

There was a Food World in Kissimmee, FL. Everything in Central FLorida was __ World after the Opening of The Magic Kingdom, located just up the road. It was owned by Publix and was one of their older stores. It was located in a big-old half abandonded shopping center. It closed in the late 80's, I b...

Grocery Stores in Malls

There was a Great American supermarket in the Arnot Mall in Horseheads, NY during the mid 70's. The mall was, at the time, pretty small with an Iszard's Department Store (a local store) and a JC Penney, along with a handfull (maybe 25) of other smaller stores. It was small, but a real mall. A&P in New York State

I grew up in New York, and I remember that, at one time, there was an A&P almost everywhere. It was another way of saying "the store"; "I'm going to the A&P". When I moved to upstate NY in the 70's, all of the stores up there were either closed or preparing to do so. Ther...

There was a PLUS (Priced Low, U Save) store in Peekskill, NY, (I believe) for a brief moment in time. It was a prototype older A&P with the cupola and the front porch deal in front. Like many of the big store ideas in the 70s, it was short lived.
