Re: From NJ.com - Photos of groceries/supermarkets
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the A+P in Oakland eventually become the town's Post Office? I've only been there two or three times (and this was a few years ago now) but I seem to recall the PO in a building which looked like a former Centennial A+P.

Re: Older Kmart interiors (orange and otherwise)
The interior shown in that video would be in the 73-74 timeframe because the Dickson City, Pa. K-Mart (the store I "grew up" with so to speak) had that exterior and those exact same wall graphics and it opened in late 1973. To my knowledge, it's still open and I haven't seen it on any of t...

Couple of pictures of the E. Fulton St. store (or what's left of it actually):

Re: another Loblaws in Gloversville
There were only two-the downtown store discussed in the Great American thread and the one off the arterial on E. Fulton Street. The E. Fulton St. store opened sometime in the 1950's and closed with the opening of the downtown store in early 1975. Interesting little personal connection to this store:...

Re: Great American
The one that became the call center was the "new" store that opened in early 1975 and was the replacement for the (now) decrepit one on E. Fulton St. as you enter the city. The downtown store stayed open until very early 1977 when it was sold to a small Utica, NY based chain called Chicago...

Re: Burger King Units with Covered Pickup Areas
The only one in my immediate area with that configuration was (and I'll get to that later) along State Route 30 in Amsterdam. This was originally a Carrol's probably built in the 60's that the company converted to a BK sometime in the timeframe you mentioned. They also converted a Carrol's unit in J...

Re: Britt's Department Store
Had one in my area as well in Gloversville in the Arterial Plaza. It opened sometime in the 60's with the rest of the center and closed I'm going to say maybe the end of 1978. I'm actually surprised it stayed open that long because it never looked that busy and quite honestly was viewed as being som...

Re: Kmart 2000 closures
[quote="pseudo3d"] 4930 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, New York (closed in 2000, according to D&D Retail) This was a Super K Mart which replaced a smaller store (a former Grants) just up the road. It opened in the fall of 1994 and never really caught on since Wal-Mart opened right across...

Re: Grand Union
Northville, to the best of my knowledge, has always been a GU and I believe dates back to the very early 1960's. As an aside, I certainly hope Tops puts at least a few dollars in the units. Northville could use a little TLC to say the least.

Re: Bookstores
I recall a store in one of the malls in Pa. when we lived there by the name of Paperback Booksimth. I think it was a chain but I'm not really sure. Sure had that chain store "feel" to it. Anybody else ever hear of them?

Re: Walmart in-store restaurants
The Gloversville, NY store, which opened in 1992 is one location I can think of in which this occurred. The restaurant/snack bar was located on the right side directly after the service desk when you enter the store. It has since been converted to sales space-a rather large beverage area is there no...

Re: Saveway Super Markets
Add Saratoga Springs to the list. It has been since subdivided with Family Dollar being the largest user of the space. Amsterdam actually had two locations. One in a now vacant small (3-4 store) strip center within city limits and the other in a larger center out on NY Route 30 in the town of Amster...
