The Stonewood mall in Downey, CA had an Albertson's. The main anchor was a JC Penney. Javelin: Where was that Albertsons? Also, In reference...

Harveys (later Johnies) Broiler, Downey, CA Demolished

(CBS) DOWNEY, Calif. Someone's going to have some explaining to do Monday following the partial demolition of what used to be a 1950s-era car-hop diner. Thought the story might be of interest to fans of Googie architecture. Here's a link to the local CBS afflitate who has a story filed: http://cbs2...

I remember Granada Hills. It was the 13th Gemco, #514 (there was no #513). The next stores in the LA area were Glendora (#515), Fullerton (#516) and Woodland Hills (#519). Two were opened in No. California around the same time, Sacramento (#517) and Stockton (#518). Woodland Hills was still operati...

Re: Smith's Food King in Socal--with store locations

For the purposes of this post, I'm talking about the first entry of Smith's Food King in Southern California, not the short-lived reentry in the 1990s. ... snip ... Valley View at Lincoln, Buena Park--I'm guessing it's the Big Lots http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=pn4xv054y0s6&styl...

Thanks for the heads up! I was able to swing by (well, a 45 minute drive) and the only chance I had to catch this store before closing was this evening. But I did get some interesting night shots. http://home.earthlink.net/~it345/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/100_0344-2.jpg Downsized for th...

They are still in business, well, sorta. See wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_Chicken After many years not even th...

Re: Food Barn locations in LA, OC, Riverside, and LV, 1980-8

Carmenita and Artesia, Cerritos--It's probably the gable store next to Rite Aid. According to another thread, the Asian market is a former Alpha Beta. http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=33.873251~-118.04645&style=o&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=7030554&...
