Re: 4450 Nelson Brogdon Blvd, Buford GA.

Ah! Thanks for clearing that up! I had a feeling it was an 80's build chain location, but not being from the area it was harder for me to guess exactly what chain it was! Is the interior original or was it remodeled when Quality Foods took over?

Re: 4450 Nelson Brogdon Blvd, Buford GA.

This link has a better exterior shot of a very similar facade on another supermarket building. http://www.white-spunnerassoc.com/Images/Property/McMeans%20Avenue.jpg On the Quality Foods site, I couldn't get back far enough to get the whole facade of the store in the shot. You can't really tell from...

Re: 4450 Nelson Brogdon Blvd, Buford GA.

Well, I'm not sure if the Goodwill across the street was a Food Lion or not. It was definately a grocery store, though.

4450 Nelson Brogdon Blvd, Buford GA.

Was here this past weekend and saw this store. Was it originally something else? I thought the exterior was kind of Winn-Dixie-esque, but I think the interior is new. The refrigeration and checkouts looked to be of 1980's vintage. Across the street from this was a Goodwill in an old supermarket I gu...

Re: Delano's IGA on Flickr

I'm pretty sure the Castro location was a Bell or Cala (I think Cala, but am not sure).

Re: Delano's IGA on Flickr

Nice to see they didn't needlessly trash the Ralphs/Cala/Bell interiors on those stores. Was that Novato store an Alpha Beta originally?

Vons stores with old interiors

Just wondering how many Vons stores still have the "red and white" interior, or if there are other markets in former Vons locations that are using this interior. The only Vons I know of that had this interior recently was in North Fresno at First and Nees. This store opened in the late 80'...

Re: Montgomery Ward Locations-Southern California-1960s & '70s

Interesting, that, because the former Wards in Fresno (on North Blackstone) also became a Target, and they completely gutted the building and ripped off the whole facade to make it completely unrecognizeable as a former Wards. Oddly enough, the store had just been totally remodeled a year or three b...

Re: RN Market Alpha Beta interior

I've got photos of this store taken last year, which I don't have time to upload right now. The interior is a 70's Alpha Beta interior, just repainted. The only change I could find was the "Butcher's Pride Meats" signage was changed to say "Poultry Fish Meats". This store has bee...

Re: Extinct Supermarket Merchandise

I found an old reel of radio commercials in an AM station's studios I was helping to clean out, and there was an ad for Nestle's Keen on one of the tapes. It had a nifty 60's jingle that went something like: "When you're thirsty, you should think Of Nestle's brand new instant drink It comes in ...

Re: Ralphs Marketplace

Before they exited Fresno, Ralphs had "Marketplace" stores there. There was a section in the middle with household things (Bookcases, various garden implements and I think they might've even had lawn furniture) and seasonal wares. It reminded me of what Vons had in the 80's, where they had...

Re: Burger Chef

You know, I'm usually super observant about these things but that one totally flew past me, and the more embarrasing thing is I have actually eaten in that restaurant! *Now* I can see the bottom of the Burger Chef sign frame and the roof structure. The interior and a lot of the exterior has been stu...

I just caught this... do you remember where the one you saw in Fresno was? I don't recall ever seeing it.

Re: Akron, OH: Acme Market

The interior was very unique, but nicely done. I could only get a quick picture of the area above the deli, but the rest of the store was done up like a city (Something like an 80's Miller's Outpost on a larger scale) and the aisles had street names in addition to regular numbers. It was a cute idea...
