Re: Extinct Supermarket Merchandise
I did a little research Giola was sold to Bordens and then again to American Pasta.I came across an article in the Buffalo Business Journal that Bordens closed the Gioia Plant laying off 150 people a few years back a victim of the imported pasta craze in the United States. As you know the Pasta busi...

Re: Extinct Supermarket Merchandise
I have seen Rotele products at Acme and at Redners as wellas other Super Value chains in this area Delaware. I don!t think that they are blowing down any doors toget to them , but they seem to sell enough to remain in distribution.

Re: Grand Union Locations Near West Point

I also knew of the many G.U.s that were in Monroe and am sorry to hear about the closin...

Re: Chains with two stores very close to each other
I was speaking of Highland Falls out side of the gates of West Point of course! As you know the only market on the grounds of West Point is the commisary! Frankly I simply could not remember the name of the town to save my life! Funny , I can picture the town the store and even some of the people I ...

The original store was built in the late fifthies and the newer one in the sixties. The older one was closed on Sundays, both of them did fairly well in this small town and ...

Re: A VA/WV-area Acme Markets chain?
Hi, As far as I know these units in Berkely and Jefferson Counties were built by Acme and not aquired via purchase of another chain. You are correct that sometimes when a chain purchases another chain they do inherit that chains union contract under a sucession clause. I believe that these stores cl...

Re: A VA/WV-area Acme Markets chain?
Hi, Such annimosity, If the person from West Virgina says these were not connected to the Acme Markets in Philadelphia I belive him now, I believed him months ago when he did post them.
