Re: Super Fresh logo history

Super Fresh Food Markets first used this logo when they opened in what was the A&P Philadelphia Division in early 1983: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3523/3958083933_32b6890c8c.jpg That only makes sense as the stores were being converted from the A&P name and would have had that shape of s...

Re: Gloversville Loblaw's finally getting demolished

I think it was around 1988 that K-Mart moved when Rotterdam Mall was put up isn't the bank still operating? That sounds right - I wasn't sure about PC, if they left before that or after (as they are now in the 2nd version at the Curry/Altamont intersection). Although 25+ give or take is pretty good...

Re: Gloversville Loblaw's finally getting demolished

That building stood empty for OVER 40 YEARS with most of the signage remaining intact-especially on the "tower" on the side of the building. I don't mind admitting it, but I literally almost cried when the old girl finally came down. Yes it was a relic and was falling apart but to me it w...

Re: A&p files for bankruptcy: five LI stores closing

Has the Patchogue Pathmark started to liquidate yet? I believe all stores without buyers have started closing sales, simply since they need to be emptied out by later November (based on a date 120 days post bankruptcy filing). However, there is still (an outside) chance that someone will come in an...

Re: New Acme/Acme Pharmacy opened in Philadelphia

A new Acme/Acme Pharmacy opened 10/1/2015 in Philadelphia, at 180 West Girard Avenue. It was the first of the 70 A&P owned stores that Acme's parent company Albertsons LLC acquired. This location was the last superfresh store to open. They have also opened a couple in NJ (according to Acme Styl...

Re: Wal-Mart stores with old signage

2 reasons I don't see this: Kmart has always been styled as a single word, never two separate ones like Wal-Mart once was. Second, Kmart hasn't even rolled out its CURRENT logo chainwide, which you'd think would have been easier since there are less stores. I really didn't have any particular chain...

Re: Wal-Mart stores with old signage

Wonder if they would also leave a sign or two in use somewhere in case someone else were to try to use their design (particularly with the star in a name) they would have a way to claim it was still in use? Similar to the idea of the Standard Oil people leaving one station with that name in each ar...

Re: Wal-Mart stores with old signage

For what it's worth, the Wal-Mart in Navasota, TX is still signed as WAL-MART (yes, with the dash, and not the star) as of a week ago. Wonder if they would also leave a sign or two in use somewhere in case someone else were to try to use their design (particularly with the star in a name) they woul...

Re: New Orleans area supermarkets

High rent alone wouldn't be enough to close the store down; a long term lease would still have to be paid. (Closed store leases were a huge contributor to Winn-Dixie's bankruptcy; it allowed them out of pretty much all of them) Stirling offered a deal to get WFM in place. That would make sense, the...

Also seems like a kind of odd combination, to have the supermarket with a pharmacy and the CVS in the same building?

Re: A&p files for bankruptcy: five LI stores closing

Surprising Acme would want stores in New York state. I know they've operated there before but it was some time ago. Would've thought Shop Rite might get involved in this but perhaps they will eventually. Sorry to see it end this way for "Grandma." The only thing that makes it more sensibl...

Note that in addition to Stop & Shop (which has 25 total, not all in NY), there are also a large number going to Acme and a smaller batch to Key Foods, that have been announced so far.

Re: White Tower

wow you mean right by the Chinese restaurant where people wait to catch the 370? I walk by there every day and that would have been awesome to see since now it is a vacant lot... was it a traditional art-deco designed white tower or just a standard building and when was it last operating? Now there...

Re: White Tower

Does anybody remember this old restaurant? They were a white castle ripoff that focused more on being a diner I know there is one here in Albany that is now a dance club. The one operating in Amsterdam NY was a victim of the urban renewal plan to build a mall which was a total fail. There are a lot...

As did the East Greenbush location fairly recently. Wolf Road is still open, and I think Clifton Park was listed on their last ad as well.
