Jons

Yes many of them were Vons. When the 1st store was opened they chose this name to save money on the signage. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the founders name is John Berberian.

Market Basket

Unless the stores were so much the same I think this was in Anaheim at Ball Rd. and State College which much of the building is intact and I believe is an independent Fiesta Mexicana or Fiesta Foods.

McCoys Markets

Yes McCoys Markets disappeared sadly as most of their stores were like you described. THe last one that opened before they closed the chain was a beautiful store on Florence and Garfield which has been torn down and replaced with a strip mall. I believe McCoys had about 25 stores in southern CA. I a...

Superior Super Warehouse @ 103rd & Avalon

Yes this loaction was originally a Safeway, a Ralphs, then an independent which I can't remember. It is now Superior #1 (a reuse of #1 after Superior in Covina originally #1 the first time around closed). A second building was built on the site when Ralphs was there and was Thrifty Drug which failed...

Crawfords Market

The Crawfords that was at 5 points in El Monte was purchsed several years ago by Payless Foods and turned into a latino store called MI PUEBLO. I have not been by there in about 2 years but I understand they remodeled the store finally.

Hacienda N of 60 fwy

There was some kind of variety store, the same chain, there and in Chino, they both had a garden center on the side, maybe not a drug store, but they carried a variety similar to a TG&Y but larger. A large makeup counter in the front and had a large selection of health & beauty.

shopping Center sw corner Central & Walnut-Chino

Hopefully somebody can remember this. At this shopping center mentioned above was the original loacation of Vons #99 in Chino and the other side of the parking lot had a drug/variety store of some type. The Vons was replaced with Pic n Save (now Big Lots). Where the other drug store was has been div...
