Former QFI in San Francisco on Alemany Boulevard
Saw a few days ago that the long-running Pacific Super grocery store specializing in Asian products has closed their SF location: https://www.sfgate.com/food/article/bay-area-pacific-supermarket-closes-17716616.php The article mentions this was built in the 1960s as a QFI (which I did not know until...

Re: Calif. Mtn. Safeway Location?
I saw a couple of folks in this thread messaged me about the 1976 Safeway map (which I scanned back in my college years at UC Davis, as it was in their library). Not sure if it is anywhere, multiple moves and computers and years later.

Re: New location list: San Jose
Two evening photos I took of the former Safeway (later Michael's until it closed around 2014-2015) at 818 West El Camino Real (at Hollenbeck) in Sunnyvale. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51945473976_4c861f25e6_5k.jpg _DSC8340 by Chris Sampang , on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5194...

Few weeks ago I went to the Safeway on Homestead Road in Santa Clara, which looked unremarkably boxy at first... https://www.google.com/maps/uv?pb=!1s0x808fca66c9b5197d%3A0xae635d254508dc7f!3m1!7e115!4s%2Fmaps%2Fplace%2Fsafeway%2Bhomestead%2Broad%2F%4037.3380642%2C-121.9755429%2C3a%2C75y%2C103.23h%2...

Re: New location list: San Mateo County
The Pacific Super in Daly City in a former Marina Safeway building has closed as of April 2021: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DalyCity/posts/10158209936243806/ This seems to have occurred not long after Korean chain HMart took over the former supermarket space on Alemany in SF that prior to the 20...

Re: Safeway, 30 Chestnut Avenue, South San Francisco
With the planned Safeway rebuild at the Spruce/El Camino White Front site (which had a store from about 1987-2014), I'm wondering how much longer the Chestnut Avenue store will hang on. I hope it sticks around for a while more as it has done decent business for a long time and isn't really near any ...

Re: White Front Stores
The former White Front in SSF (later Service Merchandise, Safeway, Longs/CVS, etc.) was finally demolished a few days ago, with replacement Safeway slated to arrive by mid-2023.

Safeway, 30 Chestnut Avenue, South San Francisco
This store is the grocery I go to the most and as the years have gone by, it serves as a time capsule of some sorts, with its 1980s decor package that has never been removed even after multiple Safeway remodeling packages (the 1990s pastels, the 2000s lifestyle variations, and the Albertsons-era bri...

Re: QFI
Replying to this ancient thread because of the two old QFI stores still on El Camino near me: - the South San Francisco location closed as Bell Markets in the 2000s and has been Pacific Super since about 2013-14. - the Millbrae location was Office Depot until early in the pandemic and has been empty...

Architectural sketch of a marina Safeway
Was just googling around a bit and saw this: https://blog.historian4hire.net/2016/01/18/four-corners-safeway/ The image in question: https://i0.wp.com/blog.historian4hire.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Allen-Safeway2.png?w=562&ssl=1 https://i0.wp.com/blog.historian4hire.net/wp-content/uploads/20...

Re: Updated location list: Winnipeg through 1975
Just saw your Winnipeg page (I remember some of those locations from 13-14 years ago like Ellice Avenue) and love the then/now shots quite a bit! Seeing Sobey's convert some of those to their other brand though makes me wonder how many will still remain as Safeway stores in the coming decade. As his...

Re: New location list: Albuquerque, 1929-1959
On a Route 66 roadtrip this past week and I happened upon the former marina Safeway at 5314 Central Avenue! I looked in the locations list above and it was only listed in 1975 and 1980, but not sure if this actually dates back to the 1960s. https://scontent.flex1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/239373...

Re: Early Kmart closures (PRE-1994)
2255 Gellert Boulevard in South San Francisco was a KMart back in the 1970s, though it had become a Pak N Save supermarket by the 80s, and full switched over to regular Safeway branding ca. 2015-2016.

Re: New location list: San Mateo County
IIRC (from a photo I saw years ago) the Honda dealership on El Camino in San Bruno is a former Safeway, and the Walgreens is the ex-Lucky. --- Some other San Mateo County locations I can think of, since this and SF are home territory for me: - Seafood City, South San Francisco on 3573 Callan Bouleva...

Re: Former marina Safeways in SoCal
Actually the photos you show of the marina store that are shown as "Malibu" are actually in Pacific Palisades..farther south on PCH. Hey thanks for the correction, I've edited my post. One marina in SoCal I've seen before on photos online but haven't yet been to is the Vons in Long Beach ...
