Re: Marketplace - Gainesville, TX

I'd hazard a guess it originally had that mid 70's Safeway interior where the department signage was one word painted on the wall and another part done in lettering on top of the painted word. (As an example "milk and eggs" was in lettering and "DAIRY" was painted on the wall.) T...

Re: Abandoned store, 8400 Euclid, Cleveland OH

I found on Flickr some interior shots of this old Fisher Foods. I'm guessing this is the original 60's interior.

Re: Supermarket jingles

The oldest Safeway jingle I have is from 1965: "The big letter "S" in Safeway Meand Super Shopping, Super Saving too! So shop... at Safeway!" On a Century 21 (jingle house) demo LP they have the "Since we're neighbors, let's be friends" jingle: "Where ever you are....

Re: Supermarket jingles

When I was working in radio I happened to go to the studios of out AM station in another city and came across 2 1960's jingles for local markets in a closet. One of them went something like "Best Buy market, your neighborhood supermarket, Has the best price, best quality! Ample parking, Thrifty...

Re: Sav-On Food/Drug Stores

Thanks for digging up that pic of the Cedar & Dakota Vons (Now closed, I don't know what's in there now). Here's a shot of the Sanger location that was much smaller than the Fresno or Merced stores. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/otterphotos/SaveMartSanger11.jpg The locations I'm talking...

Sav-On Food/Drug Stores

In doing some research some time ago, I found that Sav-On had opened a number of combination grocery/drugstores in the mid 80's, apparently getting as far North as Merced. From the news reports I watched, the Fresno stores opened in 1984 and closed the same year. Those stores were bought by Vons and...

Re: Long's Drugs being bought by CVS and will disappear by 2009

Longs are bigger than a Rite Aid or Walgreens. They were in line with the size of store Payless or Thrifty built in the 70's and 80's.

Re: Stouffer's Restaurants

The Westgate Mall in Fairview Park (Cleveland suburb) has a Stouffer's restaurant at one time. When they demolished the mall and built a big box center, they covered the storefronts under construction with photo murals of the old mall. One of them had a picture of the sign for Stouffer's, I took a p...

Food Maxx is owned by Save Mart. As far as I know they own it 100% and don't have any franchises.

Hy Top... Who's product is that? I remember Save Mart used that as a house brand before they started the Sunny Select line.

Re: 23920 Ironwood Ave - Moreno Valley, CA

I was thinking the flooring looked like what Vons used in the 80's, back in the days when they had the netting and plastic fish hanging over the seafood department.
