Re: Claber's in Pittsburgh
Doing some homework on this topic, I found that Claber's Discount Department Stores (Clabers Distributing Company of Pittsburgh) had 7 stores. They were bought by Fisher Foods, Inc in January 1969.

Thruway Shopping Center Walden, NY
Been around since 1955. Hannaford was trying to build here in 2011. There was a lawsuit by Foodtown, but I was told today that it will be a Hannaford after all.

Re: Hill's? Hill's-Korvette?
While doing some research, I found info on a Hills Supermarket in Newburgh, NY. The store opened 12-13-72 in the Zayres Shopping Center on Route 17K, and was Hills 71st store. It was a 30,000 square foot store and was followed by 5 Long Island store grand openings in the same week. This Hills became...

Re: Great American
I'm trying to figure out exactly when Victory Markets introduced the Great American name...1974 is the earliest I've found... Just an update to this thread (been a while). An article I have from 11-7-1976 says "The switch to Great American stores is made where competition is fierce. The progra...

Re: Grand Union
I'm trying to find out a little more about Grand Union other than "began in the late 1800's". Anyone know of a timeline? I'm trying to find out what their geographic reach was before the 1960's; especially in the period from 1900 to 1930. Were they national like A&P? Thanks. I believe...

Re: Britt's Department Store
I know this is an old thread, but there was a Britt's Department Store in Kingston, NY. The store was located in Kingston Plaza Shopping Center, and is now a Hannaford. After Britt's closed, it was a Grand Union (which moved over from the middle of the plaza)...

Re: Kmart 2000 closures
It should be known that in early June 1995, Kmart announced another round of closings. Again, 72 was the magic number, with all stores on that list closed by January 1996, with Texas and California being the biggest hits. I have that list as well if needed.pseudo3d wrote:Wow! Thanks a bunch!

Re: Kmart 2000 closures
Kmart closed some 70 (I think--I don't have a lot of time when writing this) stores in 2000. Which ones? I know there was Brickyard Mall, I think the original American Fare Kmart, and a few others. Anyone have a list? Here are 66 of them. Also, not on this list is 5 in the Sacramento, CA area... ht...
