I am wondering if anyone know where the first supermarket was that had a full service in-store deli. I think Kroger had them in their first superstores, so that would go back to the early '70s. But the real explosion of delis definitely didn't come until the mid to late '80s. Now... how about those...

There was also a location in Silverdale, WA which I believe was a Food Pavilion store. It is no longer a Fred Meyer but it I don't think it is a food store. This store became a Best Buy in 2001 after being vacant for a while after Fred Meyer left. The Silverdale store even had an electronics depart...

Another good site is the University of Washington Libraries' Digital Collections at http://content.lib.washington.edu/cgi-bin/advsearch.exe -- there are lots of photos from Bellevue in the '60s and '70s as well as Southcenter Mall.

I believe that there may have also been one more of these stores in Washington in Snohomish. The Safeway at 111 112th St. E., just east of Pacific Avenue in Parkland, was converted to the Super Food Barn format in the late '80s before being closed for good a couple of years later. After a spell as ...

Many people don't know but virtually all of the store brand colas are basically Royal Crown/Cott ...who make the syrups and/or the sodas themselves. Doesn't Shasta make quite a few of them as well? I remember seeing Western Family soda having the same style of product codes stamped on the bottom of...

The former Alfie's Fish and Chips location looked almost exactly like the photo Dave posted, BTW. A Google search shows that there are some (apparently independently owned) restaurants still using the Alfie's name. I wonder if they share this building style as well and if there was some relationship...

Alfie's Fish and Chips
How about Alfie's Fish and Chips? Researching a building on Sixth Avenue here in Tacoma, Wash. (that was recently demolished by the way), I found that it was formerly an Alfie's location, built in 1969. It had a pretty distinctive design, with a mansard roof, a white exterior and two large front win...

Speaking of Rhodes, I know the Tacoma stores became Liberty House. I have also heard here on this board that they were NOT related to the Seattle Rhodes. How did that happen being Seattle and Tacoma are in close proximity? When Seattle Rhodes became Lamonts, I was a still a child, so I really don't...
