Re: Vons stores with old interiors

The VONS in Hesperia CA is still quite a unique store! Remnants of the original SAFEWAY still exist. The favorite: the faux brick flooring in the liquor and pharmacy areas. They have done the bare minimum over the years. Guess the store does well enough to stay open. The site had an in-store WELLS F...

Desert Fashion Plaza, Palm Springs CA

Interesting, yet sad story about the demise of the Desert Fashion Plaza. The article shares the history of the beginning...to the vacant years...to the attempt to revive. What I found truly interesting was that I MAGNIN and JOSEPH MAGNIN had BOTH been anchors at one time. I was not familiar with JOS...

Re: Vintage Pizza Hut "Brown Roof"

Side bar with Denny's bars...and then back to Pizza Hut!

The Denny's on 7th Avenue in Hacienda Heights CA had a large cocktail lounge for years. It even had a back entrance.

Story I heard was that it was too rowdy. Area was converted to general seating.

Re: Vintage Supermarkets in Movies and TV (Old Ones Only Please)

Noticed in an old episode of QUINCY, M.E.--a character sipping on a can of a SLIM PRICE soft drink.

SLIM PRICE was carried at VONS. Think they may still have a few products left under that brand...including paper towels. A store brand a tier lower than the traditional store brand also carried.

Re: Vintage Pizza Hut "Brown Roof"

I assume the red tile roof replaced the wood shake (brown) shingle roof over time...with the red symbolizing the chain. Also, in California, due to fires, I assume the shake shingle roofs were banned. This is a great thread to add...as it is funny to see former Pizza Huts functioning as other facili...

Re: Vons and Jensens, Palm Desert, CA

VONS/Safeway is attempting to move their Palm Desert location to the vacant Mervyn's down the street. It was listed in the local paper that it is going to the Planning Commission. Comically, the current site (which this thread began) was completely LIFESTYLED. Now...potentially moving! Further down...

Montclair was torn down and a Target is there. The Target in Ortario which was a FedMart closed when Montclair opened. Funny how this thread is up today...as I literally thought of MW last night. Drove by the former Montclair site last night...as you can see the Target from the 10 fwy. The former B...

Re: Buffalo Ranch Restaurant, San Bernardino CA

Drove by what I believe was the Cathedral City site. It looks similar to the former San Bernardino location. 31875 Date Palm, Cathedral City The site is vacant. There are tarps over what appears to have been Sizzler signage. There is a NEW liquor license on the door, dated 12/7/10. So the site turne...

Re: Westfield Palm Desert

As Jeff stated, Robinsons-May had doubled the size of the store.

You can tell in the current Macy*s where the store was extended. There is a prominent "double line" in the flooring.

Re: Stuart Anderson's Black Angus

Thanks luckysaver. Did they remodel the site for BJs or was it demolished and rebuilt? There had been a VELVET TURTLE next door as well. It is long gone. That area has lost a lot of restaurants. On the other side of the freeway, Mimi's and Claim Jumper have both closed. On Azusa, El Torito closed as...

Re: Circuit City to Liquidate remaining 500 stores.

The Palm Desert CA store was built...and never opened. It is on Monterey Avenue. The sign is on the street...and the brand new store is simply sitting there vacant. This must've been the original site in Palm Desert: http://www.thealley.info/palmdesert.html A replacement for this site was built acr...
