Acme in New York

Acme had stores in New York state, at least in western/central NY, but closed them all in 1979. Coincidentally that was the year Food Fair (and Penn Fruit with it) went out of business. I would not be surprised if Acme ever extended into New York City like Pathmark (especially the Bronx), upstate Ne...

Re: Old Dairy Queen signs

The red "kiss" logo was adopted in 1961, not the "mid-60s". My nearest Dairy Queen stand opened in 1959. At some point it was updated to the kiss logo, but was torn down and rebuilt in 2006.

Re:

I'm thinking that the Safeway at 1525 Wilson Boulevard in (Rosslyn) Arlington, VA was at one time a Safeway International location. I remember that the prices were extremely high and that the store carried bear meat during the time that I lived in the area during 1988-1989. I just looked at that st...

Amelia's (Acme) in Woodlyn PA

I remember when the Amelia's in Woodlyn was under construction. This was in late 2007, when the whole shopping center got a minor remodel. It was quite a sight! They tore off the old front (not original) and exposed the old Acme A Frame roof and colored tiles. Right in front was an Amelia's promotio...

Re: Safeway in Delaware

I found a newer Safeway in Rehoboth Beach, DE. From their store locator, it seems to be the lone Safeway for miles.

Re: Safeway in Central PA?

Currently Safeway does not have any stores in P.A. with the exception of the Genuardis chain. That said their are some small outlet chains that buy distressed merchandise including private label products in around central P.A.. Annabels( I am sure i spelled it incorrectly) has locations in eastern ...

Re:

David, I meant Safeway as the named chain, not including their recent buys of Pavilions, Vons, Genuardi's, Randall's, Tom Thumb and Dominick's. Safeway was in the Richmond area until 1991, left Charlottesville in 1985, and still has open a store in Culpeper, VA. They left Winchester and Woodstock, ...

Safeway in Central PA?

Does Safeway, including Genuardi's, have any stores in central/western PA? A friend of mine who lives in Hershey gave me some Safeway Select jam after going on a small trip (she travels around PA a lot). I thought it had to have been from Maryland. She insisted it was PA, but I forget the town name.

Re: Possible former Grand Union

As many times as I was in and out of that store, i got to admit I realy don!t know what it began life as. It looked like it migth have been a square box Acme from the early 60!s . Foo...

Marina Safeway in Coke commercial!

Look at this commercial for Coca-Cola C2 (now discontinued). Great shots of a 60's Safeway that appears open! The uniforms even look Safeway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfMjgKihY2I

Re: Oldest Operating Acme Stores

I heard the Acme in Bryn Mawr, PA opened in 1954 and is possibly the oldest store in the chain.

Re: anyone heard of PickWell supermarkets in Philadelphia?

The former Penn Fruit in Chester became a Pick Well in 1976, when Food Fair bought Penn Fruit. This was an earlier Penn Fruit, built in 1953.

PA Wine & Spirits Stores, 30's-present

In Pennsylvania, the state has owned all wine and spirits stores since the end of prohibition. All these stores look slightly different. Often they take the look of the shopping center, including the signs. Some of them look alike, and they have a few recurring logos. Does anyone know about the hist...

Possible former downtown A&P

Could this store be a former A&P? Possibly an A&P Economy Store? There are lots of buildings like this in my area.
