Re: Redner's Warehouse Market in Middletown, NY is Closing

Weis sounds possible. Redner's took over (and expanded) the 60's Acme in Pottstown, PA. Weis gave the Acme in Ephrata the same treatment.

Actually, there was the Office Depot in West Chester, which seems to have closed in 2001, but reopened as Office Depot in 2004. How can that be?

Re: Possible former Grand Union

Hi, Yes Grand Union never did have a store in Philadelphia. However. they were in the Baltimore /DCMarket for about twenty years. They changed their store names to Basics, then sold them to Metro and then to Supervalu, who renamed them to Shoppers World. As to being in the city limits of Baltimore ...

Possible former Grand Union

There is a Great Valu store at Baltimore Ave. and Cobbs Creek Parkway in West Philadelphia. Most Great Valu stores in the area became The Fresh Grocer, which broke away from Great Valu. Does anyone know if this was ever a Grand Union? Were there any Grand Unions in Philadelphia?

Possible former Kroger

I found a store near Humble, Texas called Food City that sort of looks like a Kroger Greenhouse. Food City appears to be closed, so the address is a mystery. It sits at FM 1960 and Timber Forest Dr.

Re: Food Fair in Philadelphia - anyone recognize?

Hi,This former Acme was built as an Acme and expanded about ten years ago. It is close to a high crime area and I was there several years ago after the last renovation when two young men got into a figth over a girl and shot it out with uzies. Thet shot up several cars in the lot our front windows,...

Re: IGA "O&O's" in Philadelphia (post Penn Fruit)

I had read the aricle on the demise of the Penn Fruit stores in philadelphia and I had heard on a local show called the "Irv Homer Show" that some of the former PF stores became O&O's ( IGA stores owned and operated by store employees) and were supplied by a local IGA wholesaler (Wett...

Re: Seessel's

Seessel's was a Memphis based chain, acquired by Bruno's in the mid 90's and sold to Albertson's around 1999. Albertson's sold the chain to St. Louis based Schnuck's in 2005. Seessel's was the upscale supermarket operator in Memphis but by the time the sale to Schnuck's came, the Seesel's name was ...

Where and what was this chain? I have an Albertsons business card from 2000 with their logo.

Re: Food Fair in Houston

"Wait a minute. If these stores were related to the other Food Fair, wouldn't they have become Pantry Pride in 1969?" No........AND.....as I said....."any" affiliation with Food Fair Stores Inc. was never substantiated (or refuted) by any of my sources. :) If the two were relate...

Re: Max Foods

I lived in Boise in the mid-80s. Located at Chinden & Glenwood in Garden City used to be a store called D'Alessandro's. This was a huge store for the time, it closed I believe due to financial problems brought on by a dishonest employee. Albertsons ended up buying the building soon after. Becau...

Re: Food Fair in Houston

I believe that must be the "Gerlands" Food Fair chain. Many years ago there was talk that there was some sort of affiliation with Food Fair Stores Inc., but I could never confirm that. Of course there is no mention of this talk according to Gerland's (even way back in the past). Different...

Re: Pic-n-Save/Setzers

Pic 'n Save was owned by MacFrugal's, which was acquired by Big Lots in 1998. Both chains were rebranded Big Lots in 2001 or 2002. Apparently, some (but not all) Pic 'n Saves converted to MacFrugal's at some point. One of these that I know of was a Marina Safeway originally. Another was a Kmart Food...
