Re: Safeway, Charlottesville, 1972

That was a very nice picture. Thanks for sharing. I was intrigued to see if I could find out anything so I did a live search and I think the building still exists. If you look west past the amtrac station about 2 blocks, on the right is a building that looks like a Safeway that is being used for som...

Re: Safeway in Arkansas

I'm not adjacent to my files right now, but I'm pretty sure Safeway was in Arkansas as early as the late 1920s or early 1930s. I'll confirm that later for sure. Thanks, I appreciate that. Maybe there would be some way I could run down any of the buildings if they are still standing and get some pic...

Re: Safeway in Arkansas

I was doing a little googling for Safeway Arkansas when I come across these photos of a very old and little Safeway in Searcy, Ark. Doesn't give the year they were taken though someone will probably have an idea. I wonder what is there now? http://activerain.com/blogsview/525762/Downtown-Searcy-Arka...

Re: Texas: Safeway locations in ex-Weingarten's stores?

There were 3 Weingarten's in the Little Rock area that I can remember from my childhood. When they closed, other operators leased them. I know right now one store is a Save-A-Lot, one an Aldi's and the other is a Big Lots. I do not know of any others in Arkansas. BTW, the Safeway website lists over ...

Re: Safeway marina variants

There was a wingless marina in Little Rock. It was part of the Broadmoor shopping center. If you use virtual earth and type in Lakeshore drive and South University you can see it. The store closed back in the 70's when Safeway opened up a larger 24 hr store on Asher Avenue. The marina has seen sever...

Re: Old Safeway in downtown Tulsa

Looks like Homeland went the same way as Harvest Foods. Nearly every store bought by them either sits empty or has some other type of business located there. I could show you several in Little Rock. BTW, after Harvest Foods AG went bankrupt in the 90's Harvest Foods was bought out by Affiliated Food...

Re: Safeway in Arkansas

that's the one that was my favorite. The old box style Safeway in the other 2 photos with the labelscar is on Pike Avenue in North Little Rock. I had a cousin who worked there in the meat department until it closed in the late 80's. I believe there once was a church in the building but now it sits v...

Re: TG&Y

I can remember 3 TG&Y's in Little Rock when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's. One of the stores was in a little strip shopping center on East Roosevelt Rd between a Kroger's (still open) and a Kent's dollar store(now a Family Dollar). It was a little store. Another was in a tinier strip between ...

Safeway in Arkansas

Hello everyone. My name is Robert and I love this site, especially reading about Safeway. I haven't read much in the discussions about Arkansas so I hope someone enjoys reading this. Safeway used to be in Arkansas. I know most of the discussion is about Safeway in CA but I hope someone will find thi...
