I know "Edy's" was just something Dreyer's had to make up to satisfy Breyer's hassling them when they (Dreyer's) moved east.

The "Edy's" comes from one of the co-founders of Dreyers, there was a Mr Edy and a Mr Dreyer

Arizona was also the lone Western outpost of Revco Drug...they entered here by buying the locally-based Ryan-Evans Drug Stores

And we were the first market out west for Eckerd and CVS, yet Rite Aid is almost non-existant here (they have one lonely store in Sedona, formerly a Payless)

Actually Safeway in Gallup moved a few blocks down Hwy 666 to the former Smith's store (and uses the old Smith's logo for signage)...it is a part of the PHX division
