Re: Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers - in Portland, OR
It is entirely possible that the greenhouse on that one could be a later addition (note that the brick colors don't quite match,) but a Wendy's that still has the yellow roof is definitely unusual, as I don't know of any in the Seattle area that still have one. In the course of some of the old news...

Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers - in Portland, OR
Does anyone in P-town remember the very first Wendy's Old-Fashioned Hamburgers? Its founder, Dave Thomas (1932-2002) named the chain after one of his daughters, and used her likeness to plug the chain. This year, now it is she that is acting as the spokesperson, which is very surprising since for ma...

History of Toys "R" Us in Portland, Oregon?
http://thecaldorrainbow.blogspot.com/2007/03/toys-r-us-design-timeline-part-i-1978.html The above URL is what inspired me to post this topic. Does anyone know all about what the three original Toys "R" Us stores in the Portland, Oregon area looked like originally? The three locations are: ...

Former Taco Bell in Oak Grove, Oregon
Could anyone help me decipher how old this former Taco Bell in Oak Grove, OR really is? Clues: Fire pit, masonry construction http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6157/6164423962_0b9b7068d8_z.jpg Rigoberto's Taco Shop (ex-Taco Bell) by classictvman81 , on Flickr And here's the location that took over arou...

Re: Toys-R-Us
I ran across this location in North Charleston back in March of 2011. It looks to have a similar version of the late 80's color arrangement of the letters Storeliker2006 mentions. I was bummed when I saw the paneling painted out white. At least the blue is a little more interesting and less bland. ...

Early '80s Toys "R" Us Halloween Commercial
http://youtu.be/bHOP2ShVIEc This, folks, is an early 1980s Halloween-themed commercial Toys "R" Us had ran throughout said time of year. This one has a Big Bird costume and a Yoda costume. I take it this ad's animated sequences and music were unchanged for the course of about six years (f...

Re: Toys-R-Us
Here is something I found, that confirms that Toys R Us was called Children's Supermarket. Perhaps they bought them out? Or did the chain start as Children's Supermarket? There may be a few other things that apply to this web site. Such as a mention of Korvettes. Most of it is probably "off to...

Re: Toys-R-Us
I also want to ask you all, exactly how long did TRU also have the additional legend on the orange-colored gateway entrance sign on their buildings which read: "THE CHILDREN'S BARGAIN TOWN" (That additional legend, of course, referred to one of Charles Lazarus's other ventures, Children's ...

Re: Toys-R-Us
I remember one in Bailey's Cross Roads, VA. I think it opened in the 60's, and may have been one of the first ones. It seems that it was called "Children's Supermarket," and Toys R US (sorry, can't do the backwards R) was the slogan underneath the sign. I believe the founder's last name w...

1970 Albertsons Locations in Portland
As I was viewing the September 16-30, 1970 microfilm, here is a list of all the Albertsons stores in the Portland, OR area in existence at that time: NORTH 909 N. Killingsworth St. 7825 N. Lombard St. (at Tyler Ave.) NORTHEAST NE 60th Ave. & Prescott St. NE 122nd Ave. & Halsey St. NE 181st A...

Toys-R-Us
If this is acceptable here, I'd like to bring up the classic era of Toys-R-Us (which is stylized as Toys "Я" Us ). The usage of the Russian letter "ya" (what the "Я" represents) was TRU's way of pleasing small children at the time ("Я" was also a small child's...

Franz Bakery Outlet (8440 SE 45th Ave) - Former 7-Eleven?
Today as me and my parents were going to Bi-Mart, itself an ex-Safeway, on the way there was this Franz Bakery Outlet which, situated at 8440 SE 45th Ave., appears to resemble a 7-Eleven store. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&biw=1440&bih=775&q=8440+se+45th+ave+portland+or&bav=on.2...

Re: Meier & Frank Stores in 1985
http://www.angelfire.com/wa2/hwysofwastate/images/MandFDowntownSalem.JPG Supposedly this M&F in downtown Salem (above) was the only pre-1977 location to get the 1977-style logotype. The M&F at the Rogue Valley Mall (below) in Medford, OR opened in October 1986, but apparently the original l...
