Re: One-of-a-kind A&P
Hi,I believe that i called on this store back in the mid 1980!s.before it was a Drug store it was A Thriftway and it did verry well. The only competition was a small Acme that closed a few years back'it!s demise was that it!s supplier Fleming Foods , became greedy and allowed a brand new Shop &...

One-of-a-kind A&P
This Big Lots looked like a former Penn Fruit from Live Search Maps. I read, though, it was an A&P. The store is at 239 Concord Road in Aston, PA. Then it was an I Got it at Gary's drugstore, which was acquired by Drug Emporium in 1996. After a little research, I found out this A&P was expan...

Possible former A&P
This LA Fitness looks somewhat like a former A&P/Super Fresh from Google Maps. The store is located at 2961 Swede Rd. in Norristown, PA. There was also a Penn Fruit in this center, which is odd. The former A&P at Baltimore Pike and Union Ave. in Lansdowne, PA looks similar to this store.

Royal St. is no longer an A&P?
The centennial in Wynnewood, PA still survives as a Super Fresh, and the centennial roof is cracking and faded.

That logo is actually from 1973, when WEO stores were either closed or converted back to A&P.Andrew T. wrote:Excellent preserved store. They even reused the oblong circa-1976 A&P sign frame.

Re: Supermarket logos used for other purposes.
Yesterday, I was in a Macy's store in Downtown Spokane, WA. One thing that caught my eye was a sign pointing to "Lucky Brand" clothing. I had heard of that line of clothing. But what caught my eye was the use of the Lucky Supermarkets logo as part of the display The clothing and the cloth...

Re: 2 Supermarkets In One Shopping Center
I believe the fully built-out version of City Line Center in Philadelphia (now called City Avenue) had both an Acme and a Penn Fruit. The center opened with and Acme where the Dollar Tree is now located. I have a feeling it eventually relocated to the current Sears Hardware space, but I'm not sure....

Possible very old A&P--anyone confirm?
At 203 Haverford Ave. in Narberth, PA, there is an Ace Hardware store called Ricklin's (actually they just dropped the Ace name) that has a sign like a 30's A&P. This store is in Google Street View.

Re: Pensacola Albertsons: Going, Going...
There was an Albertsons in Tampa that had an extra wing of the store dedicated to liquor. When that store closed, it became a Publix and is currently one of their only stores with a liquor department at all. Most Albertsons in Tennessee became Publix way back in early 2002, when they exited the Nash...

Re: Eckerd
One time when I really wanted to go inside an abandoned Eckerd, I went to the back of the shopping center on foot looking for the right door. The handle was missing. There was a sticker about their security system. Then I went around to the front. There was a wide space between the doors and I was t...
